evidently, i must be a freak of nature because none of the stuff i intended to post is available on youtube.
i was going to reccomend ron thal's "ick"
and
george benson's "windsong"

however, because they are not available, i'll post this instead:

If you ever picked up a guitar in the 60's, you had to have knocked out a lick or two from this one:

The Ventures_Pipeline
(original by The Chantays...their one and only hit)

and of course their Wipe Out

dogknot,

My favorite version of "Pipeline" is by Stevie Ray Vaughan and Dick Dale. It appeared in the Frankie and Annette movie "Back to the Beach". I think there's a clip of it on YouTube.

Yes, it is a good version....I remember going to town on Saturdays and seeing all those Frankie and Annette flicks, LOL!....I had to post the Ventures version since I remembered having that album as a kid. Once I finally got it down on the guitar, I really thought I was master of the universe. LOL!!

Oops! Here's the Vaughan and Dale version:

I'll also concur with Henry, Allman Brothers "Jessica" is great!

Also very much like Iron Maiden "Transylvania" Did max rate turns to the bit from 0:24 to 0:40ish (my instructor put it on the AUX Audio input with his iPhone lol!) and they were my best in a while!<object height="344" width="425"></object><object height="344" width="425">

One of my ALL TIME favorite bands The Dixie Dregs.

And this one from early in their career. By far the best country picking instrumental!

And a few more I don't think have been mentioned...

I've resurected this thread only because...... I've found one of the greatest guitar instrumentals, if not number one, ever played. I'm surprised no one has posted this......

Here it is......... <object width="480" height="385"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/4j34gG2xR3I&hl=en_US&fs=1&"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/4j34gG2xR3I&hl=en_US&fs=1&" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="480" height="385"></embed></object>

I have listened to this and other videos and am awed by his talent with a guitar. To me it's pure music at it's finest. Truely amazing just to watch him and the band play.

And from 1992..........

<object width="480" height="385"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/Jc5hoC12vww&hl=en_US&fs=1&"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/Jc5hoC12vww&hl=en_US&fs=1&" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="480" height="385"></embed></object>

I agree with Henry...I love the Allman Brother's "Jessica," and especially "In memory of Elizabeth Reed."

For you Tom.......

Part 2

<object width="480" height="385"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/5bqsFF2fpWY&hl=en_US&fs=1&"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/5bqsFF2fpWY&hl=en_US&fs=1&" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="480" height="385"></embed></object>
