just started a european install on my comp and right now I'm searching for aircraft. what do you guys think is the best bf-109 and spitfire out there?

This one is 'horses for courses'. Are you wanting a specific variant or covering the entire gamut from '39 to '45?

Best for what Jerm?

Best looking in external fly past?
Best (ie most realistic) flight dynamics?
Best panel?
Best AI behaviour?

This is the sort of thread that can quickly drop down into nasty name calling, mud slinging and cat fighting. All of which is guaranteed to put us all on Santa's naughty list.
[ Off topic digression - writing that last line reminded me of an advert I saw once (I think for Hennesey Cognac). Very sexy young lady in a tight silk dress looking over the rim of a cognac snifter at the camera and saying "but Santa, naughty is nice"]

Having posted my caveat here is my bit of :bs: slinging

BF-109s
BF109E - either Aeroplane Heavens or Mauro Giacomazzi's. Mauro's have better AI behaviour but the AH model is beautiful and there are more re-paints for it. I vacillate between the 2 and they both end up cluttering up my European and Middle Eastern installs.
BF109F - Mauro's again closely followed by Paul Rebuffet. Not to malign Akemis efforts, but my personal preference is for Pauls aircraft. There is a stunning model that was recently released as freeware by Skys Unlimited but I haven't had a chance to play with it so I can't say how it compares in utility.
BF109G - Paul Rebuffet

Spitfires
In general you can't go wrong with any of Merlin 66s YAS (Yet Another Spitfire) releases. He covered the whole range of Merlin powered Spits.
In addition
MK 1 - Aeroplane Heaven have released a extremely nice model
Mk V - Bruno's new Mk V looks to be the standard against which the others will be judged.

i was looking for a mk. 1(freeware, *cough* *cough*) so i can use in missions for my battle of britian install. i check out aeroplane heaven

Merlin's Mk.Ia with model modification is a great choice. Aeroplane Heaven's Mk.Ia is also another good choice.

If your looking for a Mk.II, get Merlin's

Merlin66 has done the most complete set of Spitfire Mk.Vs for CFS2, including a rare Mk.Vb trop with the Abunkir filter. Bruno's Mk.Vc quad cannon, and Vb are visual masterpieces.

As far as a Mk.VII, get Paul Rebuffat's, and when it comes to Mk.VIIIs can't go wrong with either Merlin66's or Paul Rebuffat's. I have both. Paul R did a Mk.VIII with the option to have the engine with 25lb boost, or a basta configuration.

When it comes to the Fw-190 lashed up killer, or the Mk.IX again get both Merlin66's and Paul R's. Then you will have a great collection of both MK.IXc and Mk.IXe aircraft along with high fighter and low fighter sub-types.

Paul Rebuffat has done the only Mk.XII for any simulator I know of, and when it comes to the Mk.XIV, I go for Paul R's.

There are two Mk.XVIe examples I'd recomend, both Merlin66's and Paul R's. Paul's is a razor back example, while Merlins is the bubble top example.

As far as the Messer's

Emil types (E-3,E-4, and E-7), I recomend Aeroplane Heaven's along with Maruo's. (He did an awesome Hurricane collection too!)

For the Fritz, Paul R's are my choice for both the F2, and F-4 along with Jabo sub-types.

Gustavs Paul R's agian for the G-2, G-4, G-6, G-14AS, and G-10AS. (He also did a G-10 with the DB605D engine, but I don't know where to get them)

Konrads, Paul R did the best K-4 that is currently out to the community.
