Beta Testers needed for Operation Hailstone

Yes, I will wait for your area 10 Dog1, as I think it will add tremendously to the campaign. It will be pretty easy for me to simply tweek target information, as I'm already dropping bombs there anyway.

Does anyone know what the feasability would be of an install program, a la the DOA campaign? That is completely outside the scope of my knowledge, but does anyone here know of someone who could do such a thing? Is it a good idea? Just throwing ideas out.

Ghostrider all of the missions except the cap mission are giving me trouble. The aircraft sitting on the flightdecks roll off the fantail. The best way to describe the problem is that the ship is going foward and the plane is not.

Hit your parking brakes as soon as the mission loads? Other than that, you'd have to look at your carrier takeoff position in your ship.cfg file? Somebody help me out here... The CVs with dynamic pitch and roll will definitely put you in the drink without parking brakes on...

You can alter or delete the [dynamic] thingy at the bottom of the ships .cfg file.
Should give you a smoother ride.

Thanks Collin, but I love that rolling and pitching deck! How would we move the plane's intial position slightly forward? CFG file for the ship? My tailwheel is actually on the extreme aft end of the deck, but I hit my parking brakes, and don't have a problem.

Thanks much

Nah,,, roll up a lovin typhoon! I posted a vid with slightly smoother pitch and roll in the old thread... did U see it Collin?
I'm now using
[Dynamics]
pitch_wave_moment_scale = -2
bank_wave_moment_scale = 4
pitch_damp_moment_scale = 1
bank_damp_moment_scale = 1

... as my standard for carriers

GR: Open the ship.cfg. See the line: takeoff_start=? (my VN Yorktown is the example...)

takeoff_start=-6,21,-100

make that -100 (or whatever you have there) -90 and you'll be moved forward 10-20 meters

That's what I'm talkin' about! Thanks, Buddy! My Yorktown was -120, and I changed it to -115, and it looks much better.

wonderful to see this campaign being done! One of the most spectacular success for the war. they flew missions every hour on the hour from what i have heard from vets who were there...and lost only 25 us planes and got many of the crew from the water..the IJN and Army air losses of Japan were 275, with 60 ships sunk or damagesd of the extimated 100 in the harbors at the time.

On the 17th. and 18th. of February 1944, TF 58 with 9 carriers, 7 battleships, five fleet carriers and four light carriers, supported by six battleships including the Iowa, ten cruisers and 28 destroyers mounted a number of airstrikes... 275 Japanese aircraft were destroyed and 100 damaged, and some 45 ships, with a tonnage in excess of 220,000 tons went to the bottom of Truk Lagoon, During the raids, TF 58 sank 31 merchant transports and 10 naval vessels (two light cruisers, four destroyers and four auxiliary vessels, US lost 25 planes, and one carrier, Intrepid was torpedoed with 11 dead.

Morrison had this to say:
History of US Naval Operations in World War II, Volume VII, .......that out of 365 Japanese aircraft available on Truk (some still in crates i think), only 100 remained unscathed after the first day. My figures show that there were only 341 aircraft supposedly based on the fields at the outset. Perhaps some were flown in later from other islands. Morison notes that Japanese ships sunk totaled 220,000 tons and included two light cruisers, four destroyers, three auxiliary cruisers, two submarine tenders, two subchasers, an armed trawler, an aircraft ferry and 24 merchant ships, five of which were tankers. The Japanese lost 250-275 aircraft. Our losses were light: 25 aircraft, plus torpedo damage to Intrepid, with a loss of 11 men.

Additional Raid on May 1
Japanese replaced aircraft but not shipping.
In addition to destroying or heavily damaging all installations in the second of the raids on Truk that had not been moved underground, the force shot down 59 aircraft and destroyed another 34 on the ground. Only 12 Japanese aircraft were serviceable when the task force left on 1 May. Our losses were 26 aircraft lost in combat. More than half of the 46 airmen shot down were rescued, some inside the lagoon.

some tried to press the Admiral a third time but he said no as on that second raid, we lost a bunch of planes in the lagoon, (half the crews were rescued)....and for little return as only 2 ships sunk on the second raid...underway.

great to see this work underway and all the great assets now available. Maybe can do an enhanced version with the fullest detail and total assets for high end rigs? anyway, great to see.

:applause:

I can't fly your missions 'cause my mdlname entries are different than yours for many of the add-ons. If you want to email me a copy of your mdlnames.text, I should be able to jury rig somethin :wave:

Collin's ships are great.

also, these may help...the EasyKill carriers: they have a good variety of skins too and the hull numbers

Yep, you'll find Belleau Wood in the middle of TF 58.1. Easy and I did a bunch of work back in the day when he did the CVLs and I repainted the Essex class flight decks. You can still find mine on Easy's site, but they are now totally obsolete with Collin's CVs, which rock. You will find Collin's Yorktown in the missions as well.

Hi and thanks for not minding me stickng my brand new oar into the water..you guys are all so experienced and veteran at this all, and have all done so much great work. thanks so much for doing all of this and for being so mice about my posting as a total shellback but a very entusiastic one :)

Reading the posts too about the pitch and roll studies, wow. This kind of realism is amazing and wonderful to see.

thanks again :) if we do have to change cfg's for the carriers, i hope that will be in the read me so we can add that to the rest of our fleets for extra gains from all your:) hard work. thanks again:)

That's the great thing about the Outhouse - everyone here is very happy to help, and we all learn from each other. I have learned a TON from these guys. Been with CFS2 from day 1, but had a few years away messing more with IL-2 PF, etc... but came back to what I consider to be the best, most comprehensive and expandable combat flight sim ever. We always need guys who are enthusiastic about WW II PTO Aviation! Welcome!

Thanks. I was a Naval wargamer for years waterline and tabletop (we used a tennis court once for the River Platte :)) for some 30 years actually but now i have found that the 3D sims have done amazing things. esp for naval, and especially for air. I have hoped and really wanted to see some of the history i have studied for years being from a naval familiy, both surface, sub and air in WWI and II, and on both sides KM , USN, and RN. This is a very nice community here and it is a pleasure to be coming aboard :) thanks.

Salute to the the Colors and All On Board:)

Glad you're here - Like you, I'm all about re-enacting the events as accurately as possible. My first Naval Wargame - Submarine! By Avalon Hill, ca. 1978. I started out with cardboard counters and hexes too! I was born down the road from Pearl Harbor, and have been interested in WWII PTO Naval and Air, especially, since I can remember.
