Beware of Circuit City closeout deals

There's a reason Circuit City is going out of business.

They were always a bait and switch shop.

You know what else bites? Even after the discounts, other stores are still cheaper. Apparently they just don't get it. The incredible arrogance of some business owners/managers is coming back to haunt them.

I was at circuit city last week and I overheard something hilarious: A mean old lady yelling about how they don't carry her needed type of printer cartridge anymore. The kid working the floor said, "Ma'am, isn't it obvious circuit city has done lots of things wrong?"

I was there last Sunday and got a 50% Off deal on a 20.00 under-the-dash radio enclosure for my GTO. And that was the only deal I saw in the store.... everything else was only 10% off. Their closin up and still pullin the same 'ol crap.

My girlfriend bought a pair of those USB powered Laptop cooling fan things at the local Circuit City. One for her laptop and another for her daughter's. $35.00 on sale. Three days later I was at Staples and saw the exact same fan for $37.00... Big savings.

At the same time at Circuit City I picked up the Rush, Snakes and Arrows Concert DVD for $10.00 That made me happy.

I got Fallout 3 for $15, and Crysis for $20...I'm not sure how much of a discount that was, but I wanted the games anyway.

I heard through an employee friend that they purposely marked-up most everything in the stores, then added the pretty SALE tags. Their intentions are to milk the community for all they can, while they can. If they drop the prices too fast, they'll be shootin themselves in the foot.

:gossip: I never have liked that place anyway

Technically, I don't think you can blame Circuit City for all these shenanigans. My understanding is the liquidator company is completely running the show, including the employees, which are employees of the liquidator now and following their orders.

I THINK the liquidator is Tiger Direct.

Cratermaker is correct. When CircusCity announced their liquidation, they essentially sold all their stock to 3rd parties to sell, presumably for some cash to pay off their creditors. The liquidators then set the prices. This has been exposed on a number of different TV news shows for other store chains, like Linens-n-Things. In some cases the reporters were even able to peel back price labels to show how some items were selling for less before the liquidators took over. The liquidators then try to make their money back by selling things for as much as they can get, and don't care who they piss off in the process since they're not usually retailers. Store employees usually are kept on, if they're willing, to keep the merchandise moving out the door, but unfortunately get blamed by customers in the process.

I'm not sure who the liquidators are for CC, but they may vary by region. I don't think it's Tiger Direct, though I could be wrong.

Its probably more correct to say that CC sold out to Gordon Brothers Group, rather than TigerDirect.

Tiger managed to pick up some store fronts from the closing of CompUSA, but when CompUSA sold out they gave their inventory to Gordeon Brothers.

Gordon Brothers implimented some pretty stupid closeout sales deals ... sounding very similar to CC's deal.

I went by the local CC about a week ago and noticed exactly that...everything seems to be the same price as it was before it went on "sales". Oh well! Never been a fan of Circuit City anyways.
