Bf 110 over pyramids ?

Jaxon

virtually there
Yesterday I saw a book in an library airport-shop in Spain.
On its cover was a picture of a Messerschmitt Bf 110 flying over the pyramids.

The book was in Spanish, and I did not want to buy it just for the cover showing a Bf 110 flying over the pyramids.

I have never seen that pic before and I can`t find it on the net. Does anyone here remembers such a pic somewhere in your library and can help out?

The code was 2F+JA or 2F+JK (or another combination?) It was definately not 3U+.. as many other pics of Flying Bf 100s in the MTO show.

Many thanks in advance.

Jax,

I don't think that I've ever seen a picture of a Luftwaffe airplane over the Pyramids. If I locate one though, I'll post it.

I know that unit, though I have not seen THAT plane before.
There is another German unit, with similar planes and close looking Codes: SF+.. flying mainly Fieseler Storchs.

I have searched the web now for two days without luck. But this a too interesting piece of the puzzle, because the DAK on the ground did not make it that far in Northern Africa.

I looked and looked but I couldn't find the picture you saw. The only thing I found close was this picture but it's not a BF 110 but a Dakota. Sorry.

As well as the 2.(F)14 unit from the picture one of my books states that another two, 4.(H)/12 and 2.(H)/14 also operated tactical reccon. It shows a pic with code H1+?? later part not in picture. It does state that the pic is from 4.(H)/12.

Pic is on ground with crew hloding plaque with palm tree and '500. Afrika feindflug'.

No pyramids though.

Hewman I am sorry, but these were different units:

5S+.. Wüstennotstaffel (1?) operating Fi-156 STORCHs
(http://www.ww2.dk/air/misc/wustnot1.html)

The badge was a black africa with a white cross on it.

5F+.. Aufklärungsgruppe 14
(http://www.ww2.dk/air/recon/aufklg14.html)

Stab + 5 Staffeln:
(5F+.H) 1.(H)eer / Aufkl.Grp. 14 - Hs 126 (disbanded march 1942)
(5F+.K) 2.(H)eer / Aufkl.Grp. 14 - Hs 126, Bf 109E,F,G & Bf 110F, Fi 156
(5F+.L) 3.(H)eer / Aufkl.Grp. 14 - Hs 126, FW 189A, Fi 156
(5F+.M) 4.(F)ern / Aufkl.Grp. 14 - Bf 110C,E, Ju 88, Ju 188
(5F+.N) 5.(H)eer / Aufkl.Grp. 14 - (?FW189 as 3.(H) - from which it was formed?)

The badge was a white Edelweiss flower on red background - at least for 2. Staffel

2F+... was used on Aircraft of a unit in combination with StukaGeschwader 2
Some sources say the Stabstaffel - but this would be a rare case, if a subunit really had other codes.

Other units known with 2F code (Most probably at different times)
Kampfgeschwader 54 (to 3.40), 5.Kampfgeschwader 28, Stabsstaffel St.G.3

I have seen pics of Bf 110 with 2F+.. in the MTO, but not that far.
I always thought, that part of Egypt was always Allied territory.
