Big Red!

for FS2004
drags my FSX down to about 5 fps in ORBX scenery lol

its a terrific model with only one or two graphical issues in fsx and it would be great if it could be redone or upgraded for better fps in FSX

That model was a done as a test of the newly developed "Unlimited Poly Export" method for modeling FS9 aircraft. I can't remember who many polys the model has, but it is an extreme number. Every detail you can imagine was modeled in 3D on that plane....nuts, bolts, rivets, oil cooler, a realistic rotating beacon. The wing wires vibrate during flight. It is an extreme plane...and takes a really strong system to handle it...even in FS9. My old system (P4 3.0gig, 2Gig Ram, 512meg Nvidia 7600GS) could only pull single digit frame rates with that bird...even in areas devoid of scenery. It is a frame rate killer simply because it has as many polys as 8 or 10 conventional FS9 planes.

I was getting 15 fps in the Orbx Bowerman scenery, and like you guys, the amount of detail in this FS9 model, I was sure it was going to crawl too. The two main issues I saw was the two clear squares in the windscreen, and a small clear square in the instrument panel. Otherwise, a fantastic aircraft.
