BLURRED DECALS

Has anyone used the freeware Alphasim A-6 Intruder? I loaded it and all the textures seemed to be blurred. The Decals, emblems etc are all blurred out. In the texture folder they are crisp but in the game they are blurred. Any ideas?

Go to settings, under display hit advanced settings, click image quality and make sure "Detail Texturing" is checked.

Hi F,
Unfortunately it is the original graphic quality/size used. I managed to improve them slightly by using a sharpening tool in a graphics prog to enhance them, if done too much will look bad.

Or re-do them yourself!

What prog did you use to redefine? I presently don't have anything other than MS Paint in this machine. The decals are all there in texture and look crisp but on the plane in the game all is blurred out. I noticed that that file (#2) is saved in 1024x and is different from the others . Would that be the problem.
I have never dabbled in re-painting. The best painting I do is walls, ceilings and, when I was in the USN, the sides /decks of ships .:jump:

All the texs are 1024x1024 16 bit 565 bmps,except the odds-and-sods tex i.e. heads,hats, tyres etc etc.

It was just how they did it back in 2001!

I used Paint Shop Pro, but a freebie like Gimp will do the same. Go Get Gimp and Give it a Go! the 5 Gs!! A very simple/basic thing to do, and the best way to get started.

Simple Fix...

Open the extended textures in DXTbmp. In options, uncheck 'Include MIPS'. Now 'Resave Extended Format'. The difference will amaze you.

Thanks guys! Will give it a go. Did some poking around and found that RobH has started a small tutorial over at the Forums\Paint section. I once had technical training on some real complicated things but as time marches I think those accute cells that retained those facts also joined the march, and kept going! :icon_lol: Takes longer for me to grab some newer concepts. Always glad for the help. Thank you all !:salute:

Tried your "simple fix" last night and it works great!:applause: All the decals show up nice and crisp. Thank you, and Shessi found the "GIMP". Will play with it later. Thanks again to you both!:salute:

Hi Fibber,
That's great, I'm glad you're giving it a go!
If you deveope your skills then later on you can get PSP or Photoshop (I do use both), but also Gimp is pretty good.

Go and have a look at The Simmers Paintshop http://www.simmerspaintshop.com/, they have tutorials (including Gimp and easy to follow), loads of useful downloads, and you can ask on the forums.

Thanks Nole, I'd forgotten that one. Just a caveat Fibber, with removing mip maps, is that whilst with a simple model/texs it may be ok, it is not always the way to go.
If you remove mips then different LOD (Level Of Detail ie the smaller models displayed the further away you are looking) models will not have their texs and unless the model is set up to use the main tex as default and frame rates may suffer with this, then you will lose displayed texs and jump from a textured model to a grey un-textured one.

Thanks for the heads up and will hopefully retain that piece of info. Going to give the "GIMP" a go and see what I can FUBAR!:icon_lol: To paraphrase "The Shadow" ,"Who knows what FUBARS lurks in the minds of a man, The Shadow knows!!!" (Cue the whistling)

You're welcome. I found that in the Common CFS2 Problems & Fixes sticky thread on the SimV CFS2 forum. A lot of good info posted there that has made my CFS2 experience much smoother.
