Boeing 707 Released!!

Just a word of advice, it is very basic in looks and function but it is actually about $10.00 at the moment. Two things, the nosewheel doesn't move but the jet does ground-steer. The horizontal tail trim (visual animation) is probably too great in terms of movement during trim setting. I hope some painters re-do the cockpit textures a bit to get them looking better.

oh no this is really disappointing to read - they have taken forever to "get this right" after a false start..

I've learned to avoid the AH famous flyers/local legends. Their DC-3 was good (largely because it was able to be modded), and their Swift, P-47 and P-51 (minus the sounds) all eventually got patched into being pretty good products, but after the Boeing 307, C-47, and this all turned out the way they did, there seems to be some serious problems with all of their MS/Asobo releases for whatever reason.

I mean, it's $9.99 if you have the premium or deluxe versions. Biggest issues I've found so far are the weight distribution is all wrong when you set up the flight and you need to manually enter the passenger/crew/baggage weights to keep the CG from being forward to a deadly degree, and the weird lack of modeling of the Krueger flaps on the wing leading edge. (And the GPS, but frankly, I would likely play with an INS once to see how it works and then toggle on the GPS because I ain't got time for all that...)

Here’s a 1960-ish Boeing poster I got from a PNW used bookstore that was closing up and sold all their wall art:

And a similar shot from the sim…

I'm not trying to stir the pot, but do 'dem engines look a wee bit thick? and where is the smoke?
I know it's the angle of the screenshot, lighting, distance from the aircraft etc., etc. ..... ad nauseum,

I'll be getting the MSFS 2024 Aviator pkg.

Just took it for spin and I quite like it. I generally have always liked AH products so am not prejudiced against it like some others. I am excited about this one as its a jet liner from the period before every airline had an FMC in it, devices which I detest. It also does not have an auto throttle which I find useful in jets, but can forgive that.

Biggest problem I had in my test flight was that they did not give it a transponder, why is this a problem? Well one thing I really really really hate in MSFS is when you don't respond to the default ATC and they say 'ATC services terminated', I think they should never say that, so I turn on the AI Radio Communications. But what happens with it on is your copilot asks for flight following, ATC says set your transponder to XXXX, the copilot can't because there isn't one, eventually after a couple of reminders you hear 'ATC services terminated and then your copilot asks for flight following again and the cycle repeats. Why is this a problem? because while its doing that you can't ask for the closest airport and request a runway for landing. So if you use the MSFS ATC, turn off AI Radio Communications. Did not do a long enough flight to see if there are issues with fuel management.

Its true that the nose wheels don't turn, but no disrespect to StormILM, but if your biggest complaint are minor cosmetic issues like the nosewheel does not turn and the tail turns too much, you really have no complaint at all.

It may be only $10, but... the exterior and interior renderings look average so expectations are very low. Nose wheel? How does a developer miss something as obvious as that? Is this an example of what we can expect from MS 2024? I hope not. The FSX 707 from Captian Sim was pretty nice. FYI, this is the eco friendly, no smoking version. Bring on the Starship!

It's not always about the textures or animations being perfect or taking things to the next level.

The systems (sans the INS, which is coming) are realistic, and in the few flights I've had, the flight modeling feels pretty damn good. For some of of us, "what is is like to fly a 707?" being able to be recreated to some degree of realism for $10 is a freaking bargain. Breathtaking texures are nice, but that's whipped cream on the flight sim sundae.

It's a shame there are some ridiculously obvious (nosewheel steering, needing to enter weights manually, Krueger flaps) issues with the release. There are indications MS may have released an earlier version, which I hope is the case. But this is far from the cartoonish disaster that the standards bearers over on the official forum are making it out to be. It's got problems, but it's a pretty f*cking good 707 for $9.99 and I assume it'll get even better with the FS24 update.

Yeah, it's frustrating that MS doesn't have better quality control. But "average" isn't necessarily a horrible dig for a $10-15 product. I spent more than that on beer tonight. And I didn't drink that much.

There is a bug report saying the Xponder controls are wrong, which has been rejected because it's 'as designed'.
Maybe you could jump it with your info to show that it doesn't work with the sim itself!

I think I will pass this one up, even though the price is right, as this one looms quite promising: https://aerialsimulations.com/index.php/707-2/
Man... This shot from their page brings back memories of standing in the main wells of the KC-135 to get out of the wind in the winter. But I hope this is not the default action when the hydraulics are off - they should lock up and only drop when a lever in the well is pulled.

AvAngel gave it a mixed review. Seems to fly well and has a nice startup procedure from C&D, but it's a bit of a frame hog despite a lack of system depth, and there are a few visual... umm... anomalies.

I gave in and bought this, but feeling slightly underwhelmed. It's a 707, but the sounds are dreadful and the engines look far too big. I'm not a systems flyer so accuracy in that respect doesn't bother me too much. Fortunately, it was cheap, I woudn't spend more on it as it stands.

Jorg made it very clear in the developer's chat today that MS heard the feedback and will be doing further work on the 707 to address it.

Second flight complete, Figured out my problem with the transponder, you need to power it on, then it works normally.

I am sure they did not forget the nose wheel, its pretty clear that its not 100% finished, there are references in the manual to separate documents for the INS and FMC, both of which are missing and not implemented in the aircraft. With the rush MS put on the team at AH, I am sure they have a list of priorities to work through and if the nose wheel turns correctly is properly low on the list.

Personally the lack of smoke does not bother me as much as the over the top smoke on the FSS 727,
