Boeings 737 MAX

I just read in the news that they've reengined the 737 to compete with the newly reengined Airbus 320. Looks like they are using 787 technology on the engine nacells.
 
Is it me or they are all renders? anyway, 737´s must be Boeing´s bestseller besides the Jumbo..bummer that they are not giving the 757 the same treatment (for me, one of the sexiest Boeing tube liner, behind the Jumbo of course)

737 v. 757

It is interesting that the 737 has outlived its replacement, the 757, by many years.

My first flight on a 737 must have been in 1967 and I'm still flying in them today. The 757 seems to have passed from the scene for the most part, even though it must have advanced aerodynamics and structural engineering.

If my recent travels are any indication, the 777 is rapidly replacing the 747 on the long intercontenental flights. It used to be that the only international planes you saw in the bigger international hubs were long haul 747s. Now the majority seem to be 777s.
 
I'm a sucker for those external nacelle chevrons... looks like a Stealth plane.

Amazing that Boeing found room for another 10cm on the fan, I'd have thought the undercarriage limited any further stretch.

Boeing has some catching up to do: the MAX is 2 years behind the A320NEO, which has racked up twice as many new orders (1200+) than the 737.
Previously Boeing was not going to upgrade the 737, but go for an entirely new design at a later date.
American Airlines forced Boeing's hand by buying 260 Airbus planes, for the first time.
