Bogus Links

Paul Domingue

SOH-CM-2023
Is it just me? I'm seeing certain key words within threads being turned into links. The links are bogus junk being generated from a site called h##p://i.trkjmp.com/click with a load of gibberish completing the link address. I went to some other forum sites in the case that I had something on my system doing this but this is the only place I see it. I will run a malware scan in any case.

I see them a lot, on other websites too. Often pop-ups showing adverts for ipads or iphones. Done several virus scans still can't get rid of them. =/

Has anyone got any answers?

Thanks Ickie. It is on my computer. I'm using my laptop for now while I try and remove the malware. I tried the removal link but it couln't find the culprit so I'm running some other removal tools in the hope it takes care of the problem.

Got the little bugger! After trying several malware removal tools and all saying nothing found I went into the add and remove programs to remove some of these tools. And there it was! It sits in the open like a regular installed piece of software so it gets overlooked. I just uninstalled it and it was gone. I wouldn't have thought to look there and that is what they expect no dought.

Can you tell us what it's called in the programs list Paul? I had something similar recently but it comes and goes. I run Malwarebytes and found nothing related but can't see anything suspicious in the programs list either.

In these kind of situations (Windows messed up, malware or anything else), the first thing I always try to do is a system restore to 3-4 days before.
Worked 100% of the times for me.

I had it in Google Chrome. Went to "extensions" in settings, found an extension calles save .. as - something, hit the trash-can to remove it and voila, no more hidden iPad ads :)

Best
Dag

When I hovered my pointer over the bogus links sometimes there would be a popup window for checking your credit score but most of the time a small popup window would show with a link to some sort of coupon redemtion link. I saw it enough times that when I was scanning my installed programs the name coupon redemtion or something like that was listed. I just uninstalled it and it was gone. I wish I had written it down but I didn't. It has not shown back up since and as I said all the malware programs didn't recognize it. I hope it's gone. Time will tell.

I found the programme's name, it's called "CouponDropDown" I un-installed it then restarted my internet browser. Cheers for the info Paul it was nice to hear I was not the only person affected by it. :jump:

That was it! I wounder where I picked it up? It started about three days ago. I was searching some DLL replacement sites in relation to a SimConnect.dll problem and also the UIAutomationCore.dll from another thread here. Can't say for sure on any of it. I probably should stay away from the porn sites to. :icon_eek:
