Been reading about the Battle of Midway lately. Read one book called The Unknown Battle of Midway – The Destruction of the American Torpedo Squadrons, by Alvin Kernan. It seems there is some controversy surrounding the Hornet's Air Group, to this day, as to what direction Stanhope Ring, the Hornet's Air Group Commander, took his airplanes that morning of June 4, 1942, and why. Kernan talks about something called The Battle of Midway Roundtable, and a letter, written by Ring, but not discovered until after his death. It was published by the Naval Institute Proceedings magazine some years ago in an article titled “The Lost Letter”. Anyway, here's some interesting research material on the Battle of Midway, and Ring's “Lost Letter”.
