Bombing with a fighter plane

Reply...

Highpockets,

"How do you get to Carnegie Hall?"

"Practice, man. Practice."

Practice is the key. However, since this is only a sim and you can't get the actual feel and view as you would in a real plane; and since I don't fly as much as I used to; I don't hesitate to use the bomb cheat. It still requires properly lining up your plane and controlling it during the bomb run but it greatly increases your percentage of hits.

If your going to dive bomb practice with a dedicated dive bomber first that has dive brakes like the Dauntless, Ju97 or Blackburn Skua, you can dive slower so giving you more time to line up. Then move onto a fighter once you've got it nailed.

Dive Bombing 101 - How to do it

Yo HP;

I could write a book here about how to do this ... but how about a video to start you off?

Follow this link to watch an actual WW2 USN training film. 23 minutes

[h=1]How to Dive Bomb in World War 2 Aircraft - 1943 [/h]https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lOz_i_2USkY

The video is free, supply yer own popcorn & beer!

For a detailed explanation look here: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dive_bomber

Generally speaking: Naval technique

Dedicated DB's start @ 10 - 12 thousand feet
Fighters from 4-5 thousand feet

Match your heading with that of the target ... approach from behind.
Nose-over to between 45-90 degrees
Control your speed with dive-brakes or flaps - do not over-speed or you cannot pull out and you'll go swimming.
Put the front "meatball" of the Jap carrier in the centre of your gun-sight
Release bomb between 1800 and no lower than 1000 feet
After bomb release; pull back hard & hit the "hat switch" on yer joystick, look behind to see where the bomb hit.

Adjust your timing, lateral position & release height to hit the target in the desired spot.

It takes a while to get the "feel" for this ... like the guys said: practice

I learned how to do this during Talon's USN Carrier Wars campaign in a Hell-diver from 12,000 feet
Almost pee'd my pants the first few times (keep extra underwear close by and put plastic on yer chair)

I find it a very exhilarating experience ... I recommend you make sure yer pacemaker is full charged!

I hope you find this helpful;
Best of Luck & have fun!
