My son has recreated the last mission of Butch O'Hare on November 26 1943.
This was the first night intercept mission by the carriers.One Avenger,with radar and two Hellcats took off to intercept incoming Japanese bombers.The flight was guided by the USS Enterprise radar operator until the Avenger radar could pick them up.Many bogies were in the area and Butch and his wing man went to investigate leaving the Avenger.Not being able to find the Japanese bombers they headed back to the Avenger.The Avenger pilot shot down an enemy plane and the 2 Hellcats saw the fire and headed that way to join up.As they joined up another Betty was being attacked by the Avenger and shot it down.Butch was lost during this encounter,they believe he was shot down when he got between the Betty and Avenger turret gunner.They did search in the morning and no trace of him or his plane was found.
This is as close as with the limitations of CFS2 my son thinks it can be done.
This part of a Campaign he has been working on and has 32 missions down so far.It will cover from late 1943 and 1944.
