Exceptionally awesome, Dave! Will be all over this in a big way. My favourite Pan American paint scheme period ... what a pleasant surprise!

Just a tiny request .... any chance you'd do a "sleeper" - no red cargo markings?

Anyway - looking forward to this.

Regards,

dl

Thanks very much. No problem to "scrape off" some of the make-believe. The red cargo markings were modeled after the actual scheme Pan Am put on their cargo-only DC4s and DC6As. I just have to find time to work on it. I'm not completely happy with the way the tail fin looks either. Given that the airframe is a C97 I would not change the passenger windows to a civil version. Would you want a real "N" number instead of the made-up one? I could do that. The real N1020Vs included a Cessna 206 and a Lockheed C-60B 'Lodestar'.

Very kind Dave.

Yes, I've seen the DC-6A scheme you refer to - I think there was a Calclassic model paint to that effect on one of their Douglas birds, I think.

I didn't want to discourage you from the cargo one - just hoping a straight "passenger" (sleeper?) version would be nice. No pref on N number - anything you wish is fine.

These screens are dedicated to the very kind Dave McQueen, who generously did a Pan American scheme in the mid 50s era - my very favourite Pan Am scheme. Even though it's not a true B377, it's close enough for my enjoyment, and these textures are just gorgeous. Bravo, Dave, kind sir - many thanks!

cheers,

Daniel

You'll not regret it.

I'm surprised why, in the context of some really great classic dev projects (C-97, C-47, etc) that Calclassic sceneries don't get featured more. Just because they're FS9 doesn't diminish their enjoyment, usually requiring only a few tweaks to work in FSX. For anyone whose preferred sim "timeframe" is prior to the 70's, they're indispensable, in my view.

Here's LAX, just by way of example (and as part of a test, I've got AI maxed out, so it's hurting my FPS a bit - normally, at about 50-70% AI, I get approx. 25 FPS ...

Anyway, back on to the C-97 - Dave sent a small updated texture fix to the PAA - looks superb Dave!

Cheers,

dl

I agree; I've been using Cal Classic scenery for many years in FS9 (see the image below using HQ traffic). I substitute the old FS95-FS98 AI with more modern Jens Kristensen/Greg Pepper/Manfred Jahn/MAAM-SIM models with little effect on frame rates except in extremely dense locations. I experimented a little using the Cal Classic Hawaiian scenery in FSX. It looked okay but I don't know enough about getting rid of the modern day traffic and importing the classic AI aircraft to deal with it. I also have Orbx installed in FSX and I have no idea what that might do to an FS9 scenery overlay; and I am skittish about trying to make FSX all classic because I have read that there are problems with most of the various airport scenery that have to be modified. So until Tom Gibson and his crew come up with an easily installable FSX classic scenery compilation I'll just stick with what I have.

And thanks D/L; the PAA C97 should be available on Flightsim.com tomrrow

Ok, post has been too quiet......Any news on the four turning and 2 burning? I know there was talk eventually doing it, just wondering. Also any more ANG units in textures?

Good evening Vet:

The only thing I can say at this point is that Manfred is hard at work trying to resolve a couple of last minute bugs - as far as a 'time line' goes, I have no idea !!

I will say tho that I think you'll like !!!

Bill

UPDATE:

As I indicated in my previous post, Manfred has been hard at work with the next 'installment' of the Boeing C-97G / KC-97G series of aircraft - the KC-97L !!

Here are a couple of 'update' shots for whomever is interested - taken just south of Pensacola - waiting for the arrival of some thirsty 'jets' !!

Enjoy

Bill
