Calling all former USN "SLUF" mechs!

Pilots too, for that matter!

The RAZBAM A-7 Corsair II is still in development, and Prowler tells me the detail work is amazing!

Now then. I have been given the awesome responsibility of determining which squadrons will be represented in the official release. There will be three (3) repaints for every version of the SLUF, A/B/C/E. and the D model. Right now, I am needing input as to what squadrons you'd like to see!

The Navy had two bases for the A-7: NAS Lemoore, and NAS Cecil Field, FL. Am sure that eventually all squadron repaints will get done, but initially only 12 will be in the release, not including the USAF version.

So shipmates, let me know what your favorite A-7 squadrons were. I am doing the research for Prowler, and pictures, especially closeups, are much appreciated!

Go NAVY, and GO NAVAIR!

Any chance of the non-US operators - Greece, Portugal and Thailand? Greek A-7Hs (modified Es) are significant in the fact that they're still in service, after all.

Of course, I'd also settle for repaints done afterwards!

I never flew the A-7B, but my former CAG 20 squadron, VFA-305, known as VA-305 when they operated the A-7B. Would love to see this paint scheme done ...

My choices:

A-7E, VA-192 “Golden Dragons”, USS Kitty Hawk, 1971

A-7E, VA-15 "Valions", USS Independence, 1986

A-7E, VA-25 "Fist Of The Fleet", USS Ranger, 1970

A-7E, VA-86 "Sidewinders", USS Ranger, 1970

A-7E, VA-195, "Dambusters" USS Kitty Hawk, Tonkin Gulf, 1970

A-7E, VA-22, "Gecko Redcocks", USS Enterprise, 1988

My Choices for Squadrons

Hey Chief,
I'd like to see either or both VA81/VA83. They were on the USS Forrestal
(Forrest Fire) back in the 79/80 med cruise. I was with HS3 (Tridents) (SeaKings)
then. :gameon:

VA 25 (FIST of the fleet) is cool too.....
I go back to when VA 25 haad spads (Uss Hancock CV 19) and they would deck launch them babys
and as the propwash would stir up wood splinters on my red jursey. (I was originally AO Gun Plumber then)
during all my Viet-Nam (Tonkin Gulf Yaht Club) cruises.

Wow! Quick responses.

No, the Navy did not fly the A-7D. It was USAF. I am not ignoring that version; it's just that I am concentrating currently on the USN models. I have a lot of information on what squadrons flew what models, and during specific time periods. In addition, I plan a trip to the Naval Aviation Museum library at Pensacola soon, to verify this all. BUNOs, paint schemes, markings, etc..... This project has been near and dear to my heart for over four years. Those of you who have read my posts know this! Ron Zambrano (RAZBAM himself!) is going all out on this one. I personally sent him my entire collection of books, illustrations, schematics, etc... on the A-7. Believe me when I say he has a LOT of data to work with, and he know's how appreciative I am of his talents.

I am making a list of everyone's wants/wishes. I can say this for certain. VA-83 Rampagers, and VA-15 Valions will definitely be 2 of the twelve USN models in the release. The cool thing about the flight simulation community, though, is I'm certain that any squadron not in the initial release WILL be repainted quick!

Long live da SLUF!!

The paint schemes of the Vietnam era aircraft were SO colorful. Not the drab, tactical gray of today.

VA 83 ....will be one ? Kewl Beans. :wiggle:

I liked them all; but not over my baby, the Tomcat.
Make'um all and I'll :running: get'em! It'll be good to fly them on Mr. Javier's Nimitz Class Carriers in FSX.

One question though, are you making different VC's for each model or just one VC for all?
Thanks, RAZBAM! :wavey:

PS: When is the T-2 being released?

I was actually talking to Ron this morning about the VCs, and can't remember what he told me. I sent him a message, asking him about that, and the status of the T-2. I too, am anxious for an FSX version of that!

VA-94. I spent three years in that outfit (1982-1985). NAS Lemoore based squadron. Here's some kodaks. Looking forward to the SLUF!!

I was going to suggest an A-7E of VA-146 from the first cruise. But if there is a paint kit then it really doesn't matter. One thing that would be helpful to us all would be to choose demanding schemes that will work out all of the potential texturing bugs. :icon_lol:
:ernae:

please do VA-97, my father was with them basedout of Lemoore, and it was also the first squadron on the west coast to get them! my dad was able to work with the first batch of aircraft!

this would mean so much to him

VA-46 please, aircraft number 304 (see photo). As a kid (1971-1973), I lived in Palma, Mallorca and the JFK was a regular visitor as part of the sixth fleet. I remember the awe I felt touring this mighty vessel and the kindness of the crew who would invite me and other kids on board. The aircraft, especially the F4J Phantom and the A7 Corsair II, ignited my interest in aviation and the sea. I ended up as a submariner but that's another story!
