Campaign Editing questions

Hi

I've been looking into the ETO camapign xml files and the Campaign sdk document and there are a few things I don't quite understand. :isadizzy:

1. Is it squadron counts and HQAverageSquadrounCount and HQMaxRecommendedCapacity that define the numbers of HQ's?
2. How do you determine which squadrons belong to which HQ?
3. How do you determine which airfield the squadrons use and which aircraft they use?
4. Is it possible to determine to which airfield the squadron moves to?
5. Which HQ will become the "Player HQ" and which squadron will become "My squadron"?

Thanks for any help understanding how this works!
:ernae:

Cheers

Hello vonOben,

What I'm sure is that there are other simmers who makes list of missions that can be played as a little campaign, I'm not sure if someone ever try editing a complete Campaign...
This can be the cause for the poor numbers of reply and of my poor reply...
Musn't be easy to include history events in campaign file, It's a hard work to come ?

Regards

1. Is it squadron counts and HQAverageSquadrounCount and HQMaxRecommendedCapacity that define the numbers of HQ's?

The HQAverage and the HQMax only determine how the how the number of squadrons given in the "Phase" section are split up at the start, when they are moved due to the frontline changing and when more squadrons are added as the campaign goes on.

2. How do you determine which squadrons belong to which HQ?

You can't as far as I know. This is done randomly by the game engine.

Hope this helps.

3. How do you determine which airfield the squadrons use and which aircraft they use?

The airfields are picked at random by the game engine. The aircraft they use is randomly picked from the aircraft in the "TechTree" section of the campaign xml.

4. Is it possible to determine to which airfield the squadron moves to?

As far as I know you can't. This is done by the game engine.

5. Which HQ will become the "Player HQ" and which squadron will become "My squadron"?

Also this is done by the game engine.

I hope this helps.

Hi vonOben,
"Winding Man" of OFF fame got right into the guts of CFS3 and was able to come up with solutions which allowed campaign play to be much more realistic with squadrons assigned to specific airfields, etc. But how much is achieved with his knowledge of how to manipulate the global layer.csv file and the specific mission file called by the game.xml file, and how much is due to his own OFF Mission Manager, I don't know.

I suspect that a reasonable amount could be achieved using available editable xml-based or csv files, but knowledge about how to do it is thin on the ground. If you take a look at the global layer.csv, there are columns for "country" and "owner". I suspect if you ran a campaign where there were two friendly countries, and you made your preferred friendly aircraft one of the nationalities, and all the other friendly aircraft the other nationality, then you might be able to exploit the "country" and "owner" columns of the csv file to restrict the airbases from which your aircraft operates in campaign mode.

However Winding Man would be the guy to ask. I don't know how much time he has or desire he has to impart some of his knowledge. I'm kind of hoping he will re of the WWI sandpit, and return to WWII for a while....:icon_lol:

sorry I can't be more help,
D

Hi

Thanks for the information guys! :)

Much appreciated!:)

I feared that it wasn’t possible to "fine tune" the campaign in the campaign xml file. :frown:

It would be great if the knowledge gained by the OFF Team could be used also in WW2 mods, but I don’t think that’s lightly to happen…..

Cheers
