Campaign question

Hi

I’m flying the ETO Phoney War campaign which started September 20, 1939 and at that time I was assigned to a Bf109E1. The 17 February 1940 the aircraft type changed to BF110C2.

When I open Phoney War.xml it looks like this for the German planes:

<TechTree>
<Aircraft Type="DR_Bf109E1">
<Date Month="2" Year="1939"/>
</Aircraft>
<Aircraft Type="DR_Bf109E3">
<Date Month="2" Year="1940"/>
</Aircraft>
<Aircraft Type="w40_bf110c2_l1zb">
<Date Month="4" Year="1939"/>
</Aircraft>

I don’t understand why the aircraft type changed to BF110C2 in February 1940 instead of the Bf109E3? :confused:

Are the aircraft listed here the ones available for the player, and have nothing to do with the aircraft types for the spawning AI?

Cheers

The list in tech tree has no impact on spawns scripts. Spawns uses only E/L service dates in aircrafts xdp files (all aircrafts in the aircraft folder).

CFS3 randomly change squadron aircraft in campaign mode, not necessary the most recent one.

If you want to fly another aircraft in campaign mode than the one available in your squadron then, you have to chose a personnal aircraft and fly it. Depending of the amount of points you have accumulated, you will be able to select an aircraft before it's entry in service!!:jump:

aircraft availability

Hi vonOben, I find that in a campaign, aircraft are available in order of their dates in the techtree. In your example, the 109E3 has the last entry date in the techtree so will be available to the squadron last in the campaign.

In my BoB campaign, the first available aircraft for the squadron is the most recently available one before the campaign starts. There seems to be some order to it. Whether your squadron updates once a new aircraft enters service, is determined by a die-roll setting in your campaign.xml file.

Hi guys

Thanks for the info!
It’s god to know how it works! :)

Another question: I’ve flown a couple of reconnaissance missions but there were no enemies.
Are there never enemies showing up in reconnaissance missions? :confused:

recon spawns

Hi vonOben, in my Firepower install there is a file called recon.spawns in the spawns folder. I don't recall if it is in the stock install or not. If you have this file, see what spawns it calls for to try and work out why you are not getting any action.

NB: I think Led Zep was referring to the free flight option in QC mode? I'm referring to the recon mission option in campaign mode.

Hi

What I meant was: are there never enemies showing up in reconnaissance missions in the Phoney war campaign (or other campaigns)?

I’ll check if I have a recon.spawns file. :salute:

No, I'm refering to recon missions in campaign mode, I've build them. If I remember well, I've build a special spawn the is only use to generate a success message at the end, that's all, everything else is generated randomly (refer to air.spawns and ground.spawns).

If you want to change this then, you can modify recon.spawns.
