Can I put the DG80S variometer into another aicraft?

I have been unsuccessful in finding an addon-variometer gauge with sound that I can install into any aircraft. I have tried transplanting the DG80S glider gauge but I don't get the sound. I am trying to get some kind of better feedback for when I am flying through very turbulent air, since this is largely absent in FSX. I have Accufeel and EZCA but it's still kind of hard to know when the air is really choppy if I'm flying something the size of a Twin Otter. Ironically enough, if I fly the glider through choppy air it bounces around all over the place, which means I could do without the vario (for this purpose, at least), but the Twin Otter just barges through with no fuss.

So does anyone know of an add-on vario gauge (with sound) that I can get or buy?

Hi Mark
The variometer sound is setup in the aircraft's sound folder
you need to add something like this to the sound.cfg (make sure the required sounds are in there as well)
Code:
[VARIOMETER]
filename=Solid
flags=0
viewpoint=1
rparams=-10.000000,0.500000,0.000000,1.000000
vparams=-10.000000,30.000000,-1.000000,30.000000,-0.90000000,0.000000,0.0000,00.000000,0.00000,0.000000,0.00000,0.000000,0.000000,0.000000,0.000000,0.000000
link=VARIOMETER.1

[VARIOMETER.1]
filename=Broken
flags=0
viewpoint=1
rparams=0.00000,1.000000,10.000000,2.000000
vparams=-10.0,0,1.000,0,1.001000,30.000000,10.00000,30.000000,10.00000,30.000000,10.00000,30.000000,10.00000,30.000000,10.00000,30.000000,10.00000,30.000000,10.00000,30.000000

Thanks, I will try that out tonight!

Well I tried it out but for some reason I can't get the vario to work. I can get it into the aircraft but it doesn't switch on and I don't know why. I don't just mean the sound - the needle doesn't move either. It doesn't respond to the FSX TOGGLE_VARIOMETER_SWITCH event like it does in the glider, so something else is wrong. I think I have the gauge installed correctly because I also added the glider's VSI alongside it and that works as expected. I will keep trying, maybe I've made some dumb mistake...

Hi just had a quick look and you need to add
Code:
[variometers]
variometer.0=54,-116	//Compensation Reference Indicated Airspeed (Kts) and Reference Vertical Speed (fpm)
to the aircraft.cfg just tested it here and its very sensitive but works

Where can I get the variometer? I have searched for it and can't find it. Thanks, Bob.
for testing purposes just using the default DG808s one
There are prob better ones out there, any from fs9 should work fine. Just have a look around the net for glider 2d panels

Code:
[variometers]
variometer.0=54,-116 //Compensation Reference Indicated Airspeed (Kts) and Reference Vertical Speed (fpm)

Holy cow, how do people find this stuff out?! Well, that's this evening taken care of :)

I do not have a DG808S or a DG80S in my FSX aircraft. I searched the Internet and it is made by Flugzeugbau. I don't have that mfg in my FSX. Please help. Bob.

It is the default glider, available in the aicraft selector as 'DG Flugzeubau DG-808S'. (My 'DG80S' was a typo, BTW.)

Thanks Frank. I do not have any DG Flugzeubau DG-808S showing up in the Aircraft Select Window. I have All Variations checked. I did a full search of my Airplanes folder and it is not there. I don't think I ever deleted it.

I searched the Internet and found an update and found a soardg_3.zip which I installed. It aliases the DG-808S and I don't have it. The panel only has the new updated gauges. It does have some new sounds. Bob.

Update: Thanks I have it now. Bob.

Try www.fsglider.de.

BTW Flugzeugbau just means aircraft maufacturer/builder - the pathetic Microsoft DG808S in real life is made by DG Flugzeugbau - it is one of the least successful 18m sailplanes made -although the motorized version have been more successful - never understood how it got into MSFS - maybe because 'the popular' Herr Weber the owner of DG used to be a computer guy?
