For free! :icon_lol:

Decided to do another F3F-3, this time one with few markings and shiny, a developmental test aircraft assigned to NAS Anacostia.

I got a special pilot in this one too Brad. :icon29:

Note that I added the cable holes and antenna leads on the fuselage.

Lookit it gleam!

Point of information: while the corrosive salt air at sea made it mandatory to finish carrier planes in silver paint, aircraft assigned to NAS Anacostia were finished in highly polished bare metal. I don't think the reason for that has survived; I suppose some bigwig just liked bright, shiny airplanes. Or more than one bigwig, since the practice continued for over a decade.

I know I sure like bright, shiny airplanes...

Strobe light?

Would anyone know if the F3F Flying Barrels had a strobe light located on the dorsal side between the canopy and the tail? To me,...it doesn't seem there were strobe lights during the 1930's. But I could be wrong. If so,...just edit out the strobe effect in the aircraft's cfg. file?

But - is it a strobe? Or just a regular white light.

I also think that they didn't have strobes in the thirties. I think it's probably just a regular white tail light. (Even though it's not at the extreme tail.)

And if it is a strobe, was it really on the original plane, or did someone in the museum's restoration shop slip up?

The lights in the sim are quite fubar Mick. The flashing beacon is inside the aircraft! The nav lights are harsh. I rarely ever use then when doing screenshots. Ever seen a photo ops with them used? :icon_lol:

Anyhow, I tried Lou's Shockwave setting, but only the landing light showed and it was misplaced. In the default, as far as I can tell, there is no landing light, only the 3-D one under the lower port wing and it does not have any light in it lest I use the Shockwave light. I shall try and make a fake light in the position of the beacon, but it may take a bit of hunt, peck, and cuss to align all.

BTW folks, another set of replacements fuselage textures will be on the way to add the rigging rod holes on the fuselage and the fuselage hookups for the aerial wiring. Everything continues a WIP for that matter. I keep finding things I have been looking for, like the gun camera, which will be a semi-gloss black in the updates. I also made a black pilot to be used in any texture one wishes and that will be included.

BTW, if you notice, there is an Alpha problem in the Anacostia prop hub, that has been fixed and will be included. I am anal, I cannot help myself!

Very nice work on all the repaints for this model Cazzie! You really did a great job for a model which absolutely deserved it.

Thanks,
Huub

I will check it out. I thought it was spot on on my set-up. I spend way too much time fussing over these lights and move them by .01 if needed, strange it's off on your end. Anyone else have it out of place on their set-ups? :kilroy:
