Can you name the pilot?

Bergen is near Noordwijk? Am i right?:wiggle:

The former Bergen airfield is about 75 kilometers from Noordwijk. As the name already reveals Bergen is close to the village Bergen or perhaps better know; close to the city of Alkmaar.

Noordwijk is very close to Valkenburg airfield (about 6 kilometers), which was known during the war as Flugplatz or Fliegerhorst Katwijk.

In a straight line it is just 50 kilometres, but I used a planner. From my home to the "Groeneweg" in Bergen it is 73.5 kilometers by road ;)

I have changed the Erich Mix repaint and this is how it looks now.

And for those who have been waiting for a new question.... The pilot below did not survive the war. He ignored the instructions he had received not to fly operational flights and shot at least 6 aircrafts after he had received these orders.

Can you guess the name of this pilot and do you know who most probably shot him?

Success and for those who live in my time-zone, goodnight ;)

It´s a III. JG 53 "Stab" marked Bf 109. Maybe Wolf-Dietrich Wilcke. He was shot down and killed in 1944 by Major Don Gentile and Major John Godfrey.

This is already the fifth repaint you mentioned in this thread Huub! Keep them coming! :applause::applause::applause:

Could be. But only the victory markings are puzzling. In the Osprey profile these are not white and have a few more, but that can be a matter of interpretation of the profile...

The geographical distance is something diffferent than the distance by road Huub. If I was to place my fields accordingly, what surprising results that would give...

Very good Yossarian! :applause: :applause: :applause: It is indeed Wolf-Dietrich Wilcke.

Wolf-Dietrich "Fürst" Wilcke served in the Condor Legion, however he scored his first victory not before the Second World War. He flew during the Battle of France and Battle of Britian and scored 13 victories in this period. Most of his total of 162 victories however were scored at the Eastern front. In May 1943 Wilcke was withdrawn to Mönchengladbach. Unofficially he kept flying and scored several vitories againgst USAF B-17s and P51s. On 23rd of March 1944 he shot down his last victory, a P51 while flying a Bf109 G6. He was most probably shot by the American Aces Don Gentile and John Trevor Godfrey. When he died he was 31 years old.

Below a picture from Wilke in front of his F4. This picture is most probably taken in spring 1941 on Berck-sur-Mer in France.

Below the same aircraft. It a pity that on none of the pictures the victory markings are visible.

Below the profile I used. I painted the aircraft in a standard F-4 scheme, with yelllow nose and rudder.

When you compare the "Gruppenkommandeur" marking on the photographs and the profile above, you can clearly see this marking is more stretched on the photograph than on the repaint for model. I have changed this in textures.

Cheers,
Huub

And this is the final version from the Wolf-Dietrich Wilcke repaint.

I'm taking a short break as real life needs its time. But after that I will be back with some new 109 Friederich German Aces.

Kind regards,
Huub

I have managed to do another one. As the markings are quite clear on this one this shouldn't be a problem for you experts.

What is the name of the pilot, the unit and what is the story behind the unit?

Success,
Huub

it's a ragtag unit but its home :icon_lol: to the mess guys breakfast is on me this morning , i'll take the liquid option :icon29:

This one was too easy! It is indeed the aircraft from Ltn Andrès Robles from 15.(Span)/JG51.

15.(Span)/JG51 was one of the units formed by Spanish volunteers. The unit was formed in June 1942 in Bordeaux France. It operated mainly at the Eastern front until it was disbanded in February 1944.

He definitely was!

Well done Smoothie!

The picture below shows Werner "Vatti" Mölders inspecting his Bf109 F-2. When this picture was taken he was in charge of Jagdgeschwader 51.

He died in a mysterious plane crash after he had attended the funeral from his friend Ernst Udet in November 1941. To honour Mölders JG51 was named after him in December 1941.

Cheers,
Huub

Molders_O.jpg

Hi I can contribute a little here on Mölders

my friend (92 years) flying in Legion Condor with JG88 (first Galland then Mölders) says

1.)His number of kills is incorrect as during the Krimea campaign he was flying(against his orders) and the kills were not recorded

2.)He is not totally sure ,but he thinks to recall that it was not an engine failure but it was a strict order to join Udet's funeral. After a problem with one engine they savely landed the He-111 in Breslau but took off in heavy fog and hit a furnace.

Still a great pilot

Roland

PS:will the repaints work in FSX too ?

Thanks for the addition Thunder100. And you have an interesting friend!

There are several stories about the mysterious crash in which Mölders died. Most stories point in the direction of sabotage as Mölders was becoming more popular than the Reichsmarchall!

I think his nickname "Vatti" (father) shows which kind of man it was.

I have not yet thought about how I will release these repaints. Like many repainters, I love to make a repaint, but I hate the whole upload procedure..... (I think writing an "readme" is the worst part ;).)

But I will upload them in a format which allows them to be used in both FS2004 and FSX. Although the original model is of course a FS2004 model.

Huub

Me and many other SOH boys wont need a readme(apart the copyright things) just the textures.the one which are not up to this can be helped here at the community. This :icon_lol: would make your job a little easier and not to end up here :pop4:

Roland

my friend flew Legion Condor He-51 and Bf109,then WW2 up to Bf-109F(with Novotny) converted to bombers(Ju-88,He-111) was shot down 3 times always Spitfire's(and because the Italian fighter escort over Catania on Malta raids never showed up(Sorry for Italian SOH friends)) then teaching pilot in Roumania, then test pilot bf-109 till K-14,then ground soldier(no fuel) survived captured (east),had to fly in Avia's (S-199 a real beast) and returned home here to Austria. He got a german cross in gold for a rescue mission out of Stalingrad
