'Canon 5D Mk II'

--> http://www.kenrockwell.com/canon/5d-mk-ii.htm

(Since it's Ken Rockwell, "Kiwikat" will obviously disagree with the review ;))

I can't help it that Ken is a tripod-hating, always-chimping, constantly contradicting himself, nikon user. There are people who rarely speak on the Canon forum I belong to that take far better photos and have a way better idea of what they're doing than Ken. You take better photos than Ken does!!! I'd trust your advice before his anyday.

I prefer this review: http://www.the-digital-picture.com/Reviews/Canon-EOS-5D-Mark-II-DSLR-Digital-Camera-Review.aspx

I can't say that I even want a 5dmk2. I'd much rather have the new 7D or go straight to the top with the 1DsMk3. :engel016:

In reality, I'd be happy with a 50D... :icon_lol:

$2700! That's insane! I don't care if that camera hands you a steaming hot cup of latte everytime you take a picture.....$2700. I do believe that I could find far better things to spend $2700 on.

That is nothing... look at the price of the 1ds mark 3... 6100 lol.

Which is nothing compared to a Leica, which is nothing compared to a Hasselblad... :monkies:

Hey OBIO...
The best thing I can say is that you really need to experience the power combination of a great sensor & great lense.....:engel016:

Maybe if I was a total fan of digital cameras...which I'm not. I am old school in that I prefer film cameras. We have a nice little digital camera we use for "everyday" photos, but when I want to do some artsy fartsy shooting, and can afford to do so, I grab by 2 Canon AE-1s, the bag full of lenses, a small bag of filters, my tripod, flashes, light meters and a half dozen rolls of Black and White film and out the door I go.

OBIO,
I remember the Canon AE-1 well....It was one of the first 35mm cameras to become wildly popular & thus bringing in the 'Pocket Instamatic' & 'Polaroid' shooters into 35mm :)

THe AE-1 is a solid, reliable work horse of a 35mil SLR. While I like the auto-exposure for simple shooting, I don't use it all the time. Nothing beats a good light meter (too bad the two I have are not "good" ones...they are solidly mid-range ones) and setting the exposure on your own....especially when you want to deliberately over or under expose the shot for effect.

It's not just Kiwikat. I had never heard of Ken Rockwell before that post about "Why We Love Film". I read that article and he came across as a ranting luny in my book. Even if I didn't know something about photography, some of his arguments were down right silly. Some of them were misleading too. I have to wonder if the same attitude sneaks in to all his reviews (or should they be called opinions). Because of this, I will just choose to ignore Ken Rockwell and use more objective reviews like dpreview and others.

Yes,
Ken has caused quite a stir in many communities.....

That being said & as you pointed out, there are alternatives for everyone :)
