Can't Install CFS3 in Win 7

I had CFS3 installed and working in Win 7 64 bit not long ago but has other issues and had to reinstall my OS. Now for some reason I can't install CFS3 at all. I start the setup and within a few seconds of selecting either custon or express setup, the entire system locks up solid and I have to do a hard shut down/reboot. What would make it lock up just in the set up? I had this installed and operating before and never had any issues like this.

Asus G73
i7 QM720 Quad Core 1.6 ghz
8gb DDR3
Radeon HD 5870 1gb DDR5
Windows 7 Home Premium 64 bit

I'm pretty sure something else is getting in the way, might be antivirus or some other running process. I'd recommend turning off the UAC, but beyond that I couldn't say. I have the UAC turned off anyway and CFS3 installs just fine to 64-bit Win 7.

Also turn off the user security. At this time I am not sure the steps. will post later if needed.

good Luck

I can add two suggestions, use Run As Administrator to start the set-up process, along with disabling the User Account Control before you start, and if you are getting to the point where you can select the install path (from your description I don't think you got this far but just in case) select any folder (or create a new one) outside the C:\Program Files\, or C:\ Program Files (x86)\ those are subjected to much tighter security than most other folders. Personally I like to use a separate drive from my OS and I have CFS, and FS9 installed in the following path G:\Microsoft Games\...

I gave up fighting and battling the incompatability of
CFS3 & Windows 7 and run CFS3 only on my Vista PC or my XP PC.
Problems and headaches over.
If I had only 1 PC, I'd run CFS3 on a separate XP partition or swap in a hard drive with XP operating system on it.

CFS3 and Win 7

There is no incompatibility with CFS3 and Windows 7. After a couple of minor tweaks it runs perfectly well in both 32 and 64 bit versions.

First I have seen this before. I thought it was locked but it turned out that it was just my mouse had stopped working. I used the tab and enter keys on my keyboard to navigate through the install options. Once the game was installed my mouse worked OK. Actually I remember it happened once during joystick config as well. Never did figure out what caused it.

If that's not it then are you using the default path for the install? It should be going into the Program Files (x86)\Microsoft Games folder. Also have a look at your disk and check for scratches. Might be damaged. Also have a look in the event viewer applications section and see if there are any red flags related to the install failing. If there are report back what the event ID is.

Cheers

Guys, don't let this thread turn into another back and forth p.o.d thing like the thread that got closed did. Try and remember one of the creeds we go by here at SOH.
" Let being helpful, be more important than being right"

I'll be watching for fireworks mid

I can't run CFS3 with Windows 7 without error after error
and tweak after tweak so I can sympathize and I can empathize with all those coming here with another CFS3/Win 7 problem.
It should be obvious to all that I am giving people an option to consider and I think it's irresponsibe to try to censor my option.
If there is no incompatability, why have so many suggested running CFS3 in XP compatability mode, as a perfect example,
but XP compatability mode sometimes does not fix the problem. What then? My option is XP itself. This, I think, is both helpful and right.

Question. What if the user does not have XP available to them? Actually 2 questions. How do we know that this issue would not repeat itself on Win XP. This is not a standard Win 7 error.

When Win XP was originally released I had to change the compatibility mode on most of my Win 98 games to get them to run on it. Once done they worked fine. This is nothing new.

In my opinion the best route of action is to get the game working with the tools at hand. Many many folks have been able to so it seems likely we can crack this nut too

Sorry to hear Win7 is not working out for you

Cheers

What frustrates me is my need to keep repeating myself because people don't read everything I say with comprehension.
They see just a bit of a comment that I make and go off on me without absorbing everything.
I have already addressed the issues you put forth.
Win7 works great for me but I got sick and tired of tweaking CFS3. I want to play, not tweak. and I'm sure there are others that would
rather play than tweak. Guess what? Some people are unique individuals with their own minds and ideas and intelligence.
Not everybody thinks alike. Imagine that?

Rich,

you need to settle down a bit, you too do not read with comprehention.

When TW said he was sorry Win7 was not working out for you he did not mean your Win7 system was faulty he was referring to your ongoing issues with Win7 and CFS3 not working properly.

as for the original posters problem I'm sorry I have no insight myself into the problem, but I know others here will help you get it sorted, it may just take some time.

regards Rob.
