Thinking about getting this - my B-day in a few days....

Worried about the FPS - I hear the 707 is hard on frames - anyone who has both comment on the 737-1/2 family?

thanks,

DL

Doesn't really make that much difference re fps. I'd say the 707 is a touch better than the 737-1/2.

Taxi around EGPF, lots of AI, in VC :

Default 737 : 30 fps average
Capsim 707 : 26 fps average
Capsim 732 : 24 fps average

( Alienware Area51 ALX, i7-X980,3.33GHz, Gf GTX480, 12GB RAM, 30",2560x1600 res)

Cheers,
Jan

Thanks Jan,

In a rare moment of impulse - I sprang for the 737 base pack. And, the 100 exp pack too. Should have read your comment first, indeed, they're heavy on FPS ... sigh ... need a new PC. Uninstall and wait - almost unuseable.

thanks anyway ...

DL

Same, model looks very good but its a FPS killer, pity, stay alone in my hangar, maybe to 2016 ;).

I also wanted a lite systems airliner with round gauges and bought the 737 about 6 months ago. Its a stutter inducing, fps killer with slow cockpit redraw times.Their 727 however makes up for it.Although old it still imo one of the best old school airliners out there.
That and the c130 are about all I can praise about CS however.
Sorry I missed your thread but we have all done it.My latest was the Carenado b200 Kingair.Horrible fps and drags my system down.Flew it for maybe a hour and now sits collecting digital dust.
Alot of people shy away from reporting poor performing addons especially ones that maybe shouldnt be. Running out and buying a liquid cooled, overclocked latest and greatest fire breathing 4 ghz mega system is not always practical to enjoy a $40 addon.

Thanks YoYo and JJ,

YoYo, I've seen some of your screenshots - if on a system that can produce such gorgeous screenshots YOU find it hard on FPS, I see why I'm having issues. In this case, I tried the demo, and while I found that it was hard on FPS, I thought perhaps the optimization of a final model would give different results. I guess that was a pretty dumb assumption, topped off only by not only buying the base, but also the 100 pack. That takes real intellectual prowess, doesn't it? :icon_lol: Ah well, keep saving those pennies ... :)

DL

Wow, that is unfortunate.

I was hoping to get the 707 myself, but I don't have the fastest system out there anymore. May need to wait for a new computer.

Better now than later...sorry to all those who found out too late. :frown:

Don't give up yet! You can improve the CS 737 FPS by disabling 3 gauges, the left and right TCAS, and the weather radar (a real FPS hog) :

Locate these lines in panel.cfg and put a comment (//) at the beginning
Captain_Sim.x737.sys!L14
Captain_Sim.x737.sys!R14
Captain_Sim.x737.wxr!wr_display

If this is not enough, you can use the "light" cockpit model "x737_interior_fdo.mdl" (without cabin).

Enjoy, and happy b'day!

USAir by Bruce Martin, Air Inuit and Air North by Cheese Strike, Utah by Bluesky Scenery, pinup by me!

USAir is included in a very nice 6-pack livery (Air Florida, All Nippon Airways, Janet Airlines, Air Malta, Ryan Air and USAir). Link in the CS forum here. Thanks Bruce.
