Capt Sim C-130 ?

Duckie

Has anyone here had any success installing CSC-130 in WIN 7?

So far my research at CS and other sites/forums says "NO". Capt Sim no longer supports FS9. Their knowledge base gives some suggestions, which I have tried without success. Humorously, Capt Sim's comment on the suggestions is,"if these don't work go back to XP or call M$ !!!

Would love to hear and TRY your success story!!

Steve

Seems that if they still sell FS9 products, they would be more helpful with those who have had issues installing FS9 products into FS9... but I digress.

That being said... I have the CS C-130 Pro Pack, and I have successfully installed it twice on a Windows 7 PC. I just clicked on the installer, typed in the path I use and it goes without a hitch. (I really ought to fly this plane more... for the most part, she just sits).

My path for FS9 in Win7: C:\FS Games\Flight Simulator 9.

I also have the CS legendary F-104 and the Legendary Yak-3. Both of those installs went without incident too.

Hope that helps, Steve. I haven't gotta clue otherwise.

Thanks BB686. I have twice downloaded the files from CS this week and on the 1st install it seemed to go without a hitch. But when I went to fly the landing gear and props are missing. CS said to make sure I had the correct version for this problem.

2nd download I got ERROR CODE # 11 which is a Windows OS error which is what I mentioned in my original post was the result of my research with many folks reporting the same error to Capt Sim leading to the response above.

I have disabled virus scans from the CS files and have game mode selected. My FS install is not on the same drive as Win 7. I tried running in XP mode and as Admin all to no avail.

I hope it is something I'm doing wrong and not my system. I really like these models, also have the CS 727 with same results.

Thanks,

Steve

I had a very similar problem years ago with the FS9 CS-130 on a WinXP machine. The problem was corrupted and or missing gauges in the initial installer. I was able to acquire another install package from Captain Sim and THAT cured the problem. It was the same issue, missing props and landing gear.

Question for you. Is the CS C-130 your latest install? Or have you installed the C-130 and run another installer for a different package afterwards? I'm just shooting from the hip here, but maybe something in your FS9, somehow corrupted some of the gauges or textures for the C-130.

I uninstalled the originals and received totally new files for CS and used the new ones. Total uninstall was one of the suggestions from Capt Sim. I have all CSC130 packages and I begin with the "Legendary" version first. All installs now give me the ERROR CODE # 11 and terminate the install.

I have the CS 707, 757 and C130, and all install and work just fine in Windows 7 for both FS9 and FSX.

It does sound that there is something wrong with the install. Either the CS install or a different software install may have corrupted files.

Thank you Manfred. I still have the original install package and just tried it with the same result.

I am running Windows 7 Home SP1. Which version of 7 are you guys running?

Geezz... I'm at a loss for answers. Did you try disabling the User Account Control? Not that it would make a difference, but it's all I can come up with at this point.

Yeah, BB686, that was actually one of the required CS steps for the error code.

Although this is a real bummer, cuz I really like this AC, I think I'm lucky that out of all the payware AC I have installed only the CSC130 and the C9 F-4 don't work. I have requested the reactivation code for the C9 F-4 and we'll see how that goes.

Everything else seems to work without any reinstallation and I have both my FS9 and GW3 up and running.

I'm still running an old XP machine. Some time back the HD that my OS was on died (FS is on another drive). Soon as I got the computer back up I checked FS9 and everything seemed fine until I loaded the CS C-130 - no props/landing gear. Like you, I tried to re-install with my original installer - no joy. New installer from CS gave me the "error 11" code. A number of forums suggested that my problem likely results from a copy-protection feature, they suggested things like total uninstall then cleaning the registry and such. Nothing I tried worked although my CS 707,727, and F-104 work fine. After much banging my head against the wall I gave up.

I hope you have better luck than I did.

edit: Just saw you had trouble with the C9 F-4, me too. That turned out to be an easy fix; there's a .dll that gets installed in the Windows folder upon installation. When I replaced the HD naturally that .dll was missing. C9 helped me out so the Phantom works now.

At this point, it could be anything that's clogging up your CS C-130. I played around with this model and was able to create the same problem by commenting out some of the gauges in the VC. Seems that if you do anything like that to the plane (And not using the TCE), it mucks it up. After un-commenting everything, the plane and all it's parts came back just fine. All I can come up with is that:

A., Something is going 'mustang' during the install and corrupting parts of it as it is executing, or B., Something in the sim isn't right.

Sorry I couldn't be of more help, Duckie... I really wanted to help you out here.

Safe Mode?

Have you tried installing the aircraft in safe mode? Click on the start button and then type in msconfig, it will bring up the system configuration window, click the tab that reads Boot, and check the box Safe boot and network. Restart the computer and try to install the aircraft under safe mode. To get out of safe mode uncheck safe boot and restart the computer.

Tried it. No joy. Thank you.

I'm running WinXP, and have had the same problem. For some reason, there are times when the initial download from the CS website is corrupted by the download process. Success came for me after repeated downloads and reinstallations.

I wonder if the powers that be at CS are aware of this problem, and how it could be costing them potential customers?

Captain sim legendary c-130

Hi Duckie,

Have watched all of the messages concerning probs with re-installing and running this a/c or its add-ons. I am running Win 7 pro 64 bit OS on a solid state drive with FS9 on a separate internal hard drive. I had no probs with this a/c until I decided to add some more variants. Like a few people I ended up with C-130Js or stretched hercs with no props or u/c. Ran around doing all the things that you have looped round. Never contacted Capt Sim staff as they clearly regard FS9 as history - despite still taking your money for their FS9 a/c. Bought the Yak 3 over 4 years ago and have never managed to get to install on any of the rigs I have run.

Anyway, mini rant over. I have never been a great fan of automatic skin installers and software you have to use in order to load the a/c or fuel it. I disabled the C-130 skins, cockpits , loads and fuel manager and produced the relevant skins, fuel and load information by amending the a/c cfg to meet my requirements and to be able to add Shockwave lights setup. All orig a/c and add-ons work well now having props and u/c visible. Only loss I have is that the external wing tanks no longer show up and I am stuck with the classic original cockpit in 2D and VC. I can live with that and think that I was lucky to salvage anything from the chaos that ensued by the c-130 add-ons. The sound was also one of the first things to ditch and replace. How can you produce a fantastic model like that and couple it to such a pathetic sound folder?

Hope this helps you salvage something. Forget Captain Sim staff as they have clearly written us out of their current plot.

Rgds

I had that as well.

I finally succeeded doing the installation using an offline activation.
Look up item 407 in their knowledgebase.
Be sure to do everything under an admin account.

Thanks, jeroen79. I have tried that with no luck. I've just started my 3rd round of trying everything from the top! Not giving up yet but getting close.

Not that it matters, but I have used my original install of the CS C-130, (which is probably their last update for FS9), as well as my original Pro Pack install, on both an XP machine as well as two Win7 machines. The Pro Pack is several years old and sat on my back-up since procurement. I installed the Pro Pack about 8 months ago... no problem. I haven't tried just installing the C-130 stand alone....

Again, I will add me 2 bits... Possibly a problem in the registry? Sometimes installers will add a key to the registry, even if you run the uninstall program for an aircraft or scenery... the registry entries remain. That might be an issue when you go to re-install the aircraft, however ALL of my CS installers asked me if I wanted to "repair" the current??? install... when I went to RE_INSTALL the model. Suffice to say, the re-install for the Legendary F-104, the C-130 Pro Pack, and the Legendary Yak-3 all worked just fine for me.

Maybe a possible issue caused by a recent "Windows Update". Probably not but you never know. Try re-verting the HD back to a time before your last Windows Update, and run the C-130's installer. I'm just saying.

Also, you probably already have done this, but run a good registry clean-up tool such as CCleaner (Free from Piriform Software).
