Carbon Cub

SOH-CM-2013
Is there a FSX Carbon Cub available? I just bought this RC version this past weekend. It's performance is almost unbelievable. It is a bind and fly model which means it is all ready to fly right out of the box. All you have to do is bind it to your transmitter. It has rudder, aeilrons, elevator and flaps plus working position lights and landing light. It also was designed to be used as a tow plane for E-Flight's micro glider. Another member of my RC flying club is going to purchase the glider just as soon as it is released.

Haven't had a chance to fly one, but did get hands on at the AlaskaAirmans show. Beautiful plane with lots of aerodynamic cleanup that the cub really needs. Biggest flaw, no range due to small tanks to keep the weight down.

If I'm not mistaken, the weight limitation is because it is certified as a LSA.

Yep, weigh limits as an LSA, which still means ya can't go much of anywhere in it. Fuel is getting harder and harder to find, at least for airplanes. Range is becoming more important. I think eventually the LSA deal will be mostly a flop, as least as far as new production aircraft goes, look at the price, for that money I can get a nice 185 with floats and wheel skis! The most practical LSA's I have seen have come from stripped down champs etc, for a pretty reasonable price.

But in FS we can get refueled any time or place we want at a reasonable price.

The performance is absolutely amazing. You can build them as an experimental with a gross weight of 1865lb. When they only weigh 850lb or so empty and a 180hp, you get a performer!
They also have an option for long range tanks, 44 gallons of fuel (40 useable)

I flew my little RC version again this afternoon. Had a lot of fun with it. The major problem with the real life aircraft is its costs. Not a lot of people in my circle of aquaintances who can afford over 150 thousand dollars for a two place airplane.

Right now, in my humble opinion, the best value on the market is a used Cessna 140. You can get a pretty decent one for less than 20 thousand dollars.
The one that I have access to was purchased for 14 thousand. It's not the prettiest plane on the ramp but it is airworthy and had been well maintained. There's also some good bargins on Ercoupes some of which qualify as LSA.

RD, who makes that RC model? I might want to grab one of those -- looks fun!

As for the Carbon Cub, the only one I know of for a sim is the one for MS Flight.

This thread reminded me of good old "Microsoft Flight" Highly criticized....There is a Carbon Cub there if You are willing to have a gamble against the odds :kilroy:

It is EFlights model from Horizon Hobby. I got mine from Hodges Hobbies in Americus, Georgia. You can order it online from HobbyZone.

It is really a great little flyer. It thinks it's a much bigger model. Actually fies better than some of my 40 size glow engine models. There is a companion sailplane set to be released in November. You tow the sailplane to altitude with the cub and then it is released via servo from the sailplane.
