Carenado bows out

No, it is native FSX. Right now it is on "hold" while I figure out what corrupted the source code so I can't get the props to spin. It does have contra-rotating props, but I learned how to handle those when I did the SR-45 Princess which has 10 props!

Best, Paul

Thank you for the answer!

Carenado Enters X-Plane Market

Carenado is pleased to announce its entry to the X-Plane aircraft add-on market. All Carenado aircraft for X-Plane will have the same quality standards as they have in FSX and FS2004. Detailed models, realistic textures, custom instruments, realistic behavior and friendly FPS, making the flight experience very close to reality. Their promise to the X-Plane community is to deliver the best GA aircraft for X-Plane users.

Carenado has chosen the Mooney M20J as it first aircraft for this platform. The aircraft should be ready in September, 2010.
Carenado has plans to develop most of their current FSX fleet for X-Plane and continue developing more aircraft for FSX.

How bizzar is that, to totally abandon the FS2004 market for X-Plane.

Just how big is the X-Plane market ??

Pete.

At least X-Plane is still being actively worked on by the developer, whereas our beloved FS9 is considered by many (not I!) to be a dead horse seeing as how Micro$oft isn't supporting it anymore.

XPlane has a LOT of users, and contrary to FS9 users, they don't have that much payware aircraft available.
Having a company like Carenado coming to feed the XPlane community with high quality aircrafts is indeed an excellent news for the XPlane users.
The fact is also that contrary to FS9, XPlane is still evolving and its full potential has still to be discovered.

X-Plane is effectively the Apple Mac of the flightsim world; technically it has always been better but, as with Mac's, was traditionally a bit too much of a niche market for developers to consider - but in the same way that Mac's are now much more mainstream, so it is easier to get software for them now (my son is a Mac user, and this has been a real thorn in his side), X-Plane has gained a lot of ground so probably warrants more attention.

However, while I'm assuming Carenado have considered all the options, I'd question whether the X-Plane marker is really that much more lucrative than the legacy FS9 market.

Carenado is just expanding into another market in order to keep afloat. Making profits in a niche market such as flightsim is very hard.

And as flightsims head into the future, less and less "addons" will be made by independent developers. For example, with Rise of Flight, the developers themselves are charging for addons planes; this is the smartest way to do business (you get to keep all the profits instead of a 3rd party making money off of your own products).

With the next version of MS Flight, I'm almost 99% sure that the addon market will be shut out. All addons will be developed by MS internally and sold under the LIVE title. Almost all games are moving to the DLCs format (Downloadable Content), so it makes sense for MS Flight to follow the same business formula.

So in short, unless these 3rd party developers move to support other flightsims (or go into licensing deals with MS to develop inclusively for MS Flight), their future might not look too bright.

considering the possibility to have Flight, my original plan ie: "Sticking with FS9 and skipping both FSX and the hardware that goes with it and waiting for FSXI" is coming to life again...

So you carenado guys, maybe should reconsider for I'm not going to invest money in FSX now ...not a dime.

Likewise. No FSX for me. I had planned to move to FSX early next year, but after seeing there is a new sim on the horizon, I will stick with what I have for now. Any new addons that I might want that are released for FS9 will be purchased. Beyond that, we shall see....:jump:
