Carenado Bush 185 Available

Agreed.

With as much as I do like Carenado planes, I DON'T LIKE the fact that on the product page, Carenado states the aircraft are DX10 supported, when in reality the exterior lights don't even function correctly when DX10 is turned on (which is how I fly). The exterior lights do work in DX9 just fine. Tested on both C185 packages with DX10 on and off.

[EDIT] attached exterior screenshots of lighting issues in DX10 mode.

The aircraft is DX10 Compatible! Other wise you would not see a aircraft.

It is infact the .fx files that are not dx10 compatable. Are you using Shockwave lights? or other lights you can add.

Yes, I had them problems too & dunno why.
Third time was a charm fer me. I hope ya got the thing D/L.
It was a strange deal fer shure with the troubles.

I cannot dl this package, tried it five! times, but every dl is broken.
Also with a dl-manager no luck.
Has anyone else this problem?
I have all Carenado aircrafts for FSX,but never before such an problem dl an aircraft.
Support doesn`t answer.
Michael

Carenado's exterior lights have never worked very well in DX10 and the first thing I do is swap them out.
I have to say this package is surely the best they have ever done :salute:

Got an email back from them this morning.

They mentioned that the gauge lighting is like that in real life. Alright, I'll give them the benefit of the doubt.

But on the exterior lights the say, and I quote from my email, here's what Carenado says: "About the exterior lights….it is a FS issue. If you change to DX9 will see the lights. Same problems with the default aircraft."

Huh??? Well my Sibwings Bird Dog certainly doesn't have exterior lighting issues in DX10. Screenshots attached of the Bird Dog at night at KOLM. DX10 is set to on.

Then use the fx files from the BirdDog on the C185. Problem solved.

Well, it worked. Thanks 6297J :salute:

I have always enjoyed Carenado planes, but dang, are making the .fx files compatible for DX10 THAT difficult? If you're going to claim on your product page that it supports DX10, then be truthful about the lights not fully working.

Curious, can you make .fx files that are DX10 copmpliant? I only say that because most commercial developers are not that far removed from most on these forums, so not everyone has the same skill sets or knowledge. I haven't checked, but do the default aircraft suffer the same effect? If so, then Carenados claim that they are DX10 compliant is not false.

Playing devils advocate, there is the possibility that the ones for the birddog are custom effects and that Carenado don't have the knowledge to make custom lights that work in DX10 either way, glad it's working now. Hopefully this will get sorted out by them in the future.

do you nit pick so much on your Meal deals?

You make them out to sound Malicious in "covering up" the lights not working in dx10.

DX10 is a "preview mode" in FSX, not fully compatible. Move on.

Tim,
Well excuse me for pointing something out that's pretty glaring in my opinion after paying $45 for two packages of aircraft (original C185 and Bush variant). Yeah, the textures show up in DX10, but parts of the plane DO NOT WORK. Is that such a stretch? I guess I should just shut up then and enjoy my Carenado planes like some FS Payware-purchasing-zombie? I don't have an axe to grind with Carenado and this is the only issue in four years that I've run across with their planes.

Michael,
No sir I don't know how to make .fx as I've never built anything FSX specific, only one measly, simple, freeware plane for FS2004. In all honesty, I haven't even cracked the FSX SDK. Your question is definitely a valid one coming from the design side of the house. Maybe they don't know how to build the .fx file, but nothing that a third party couldn't help with. I understand that if they didn't know how to do it, they wouldn't come out and say "We don't know how to build DX10 compliant .fx files". I'm reminded of a certain payware developer that instead of saying this, in regards to a weather radar system, got blasted for it when other complex packages had it. I guess I was a little taken back by the fact that Carenado said basically it's a limitation of FSX, when in fact other payware designers have overcome the DX10 hurdle.

P.S. After swapping out the lights for the Bird Dog ones, the green nav light works and is steady, the red one blinks in and out when panning around in spot view. The tail light also shows and disappears. Everything works fine though on my BirdDog. The C185 is a great airplane no doubt, there are some issues like the lights and the VC viewpoint, but nothing that's a showstopper. She's a fine addition to my FSX hangar since I didn't re-purchase the C206 full package for FSX.

I'm really enjoying this one. Fantastic aircraft. Excellent for the short hops in the back country. Will be even better when I decide what other Northwest scenery benefit the visuals best. I've got a lot of lake hops in mind though
