Shortly after touch down on runway 09/27, aircraft hit a deer crossing the runway. The impact was so violent that left wing was sheared off and a fire erupted instantly. Aircraft continued its course few yards before coming to rest. Both pilots escaped uninjured but aircraft was destroyed by fire. :ichile:

I imagine the deer might be listed as 'fatal'

Good grief! That was one hot fire to have so melted almost the entire airframe. At least the nosegear tire and wheel is possibily salvagable... :blind:

C550 II. Might be seeing a radome and radar antenna listed on Ebay shortly too...

I'd be thinking it may entail a nasty cleanup on the runway with small bits melted into the asphalt as well as fuel residue, various other compounds and a significant smell of fear from the two pilots.

We have coyotes at Plant City and they have become dangerously used to aircraft. One of our guys hit one with his prop while landing at night a few months back. Fortunately no damage (messy front end) and his passengers didn't even notice it.

He confirmed it was a Coyote the next day when the airport picked up the pieces.

Years ago when I joined a new ATC unit I was reading back thru the unit logs and found an entry that went:
  • "CP20(737) reported hitting a fox on takeoff"
  • "Mtce. investigated and reported the remains consisted of a head and a tail"

Not sure I'd be looking forward to cleaning up the deer chunks
