A recent thread on aliasing got me to thinking about ways to streamline and trim my CFS2 installs. And tonight I took another step in that direction. First, I went into my installs and removed all the non-stock scenery from the sims (via the scenery library setup thingiemajigger). Then I went into each install and removed all the files for the add-on scenery and placed them into a single folder called CFS2 Scenery. This folder is inside the Microsoft Games folder, yet outside of my CFS2 install folders.
C:\Program Files\Microsoft Games (Parent Folder)
-----CFS2 SCENERY (all add-on scenery folders here)
-----Combat Flight Simulator 2 (stock install)
-----Prop Test (install for testing and tweating prop planes)
-----Jet Test (install for testing and tweaking jet planes)
Once I had all the scenery folders into the CFS2 Scenery Folder, I fired up the Jet and Prop Test installs and re-added the scenery for those installs. All I had to do was to direct the sim to look into the CFS2 Scenery folder for the scenery packs. Very simple to do, did not take long at all, slims and trims my installs, and will make it easier to share scenery (such as Alpha Sim's Groom Lake AFB...which I use for initial testing of aircraft since it has a huge runway...perfect for heavy bombers and jets) between installs.
I am not sure how much HD space I freed up doing this, but it sure will make maintaining an archive of my scenery much easier.
