CERA Sim BlackHawk released. Sticky 9/21/13

It's very nice on the frames, especially for the visual quality. Someone had mentioned flight model before. I have to give this is serious disclaimer, because I am not hugely familiar with helo's or the UH-60 (but I am very familiar with the core FSX flight mechanics). There are three possible rotorcraft flight models to for a developer to choose from; the R22, the legacy 206 flight model, and the gas turbine based model of the EH101 released with acceleration. Aside from the base engine model, all three physics models have different strengths and limitations. If it's not already clear, the requirement for Acceleration is because this UH-60 uses the EH101 based flight model.

On top of the base flight model there are some system gauges which add a layer of management. Dropping the throttle in a low hover will cause an engine to cough, and a crash will shortly follow. There are also two SAS channels and a trim function which interact with the pilot. These systems are implemented via xml rather than SimConnect/C++; which means when the flight systems interact with the pilot you'll see the sticking shaking back and forth between the hardware commanded position and the gauge commanded system (with the latter method, this happens under the hood).

With that said, the UH-60 has a unique feel to it which is characterized by a greater sense of inertia than the EH101. Inputs are a little less responsive and once in motion it seems to take a little longer to stop (not at all a bad feeling, just different). I also say unique rather than authentic because I'm not qualified to claim anything helo related is accurate. There is no distinguishable rotor torque with change in collective (unlike EH101), so the pedals feel much more like rudders than 'anti-torque'. I did load the default flight in the air over Friday Harbor; the battery/generators were off and I spun uncontrollably out of the sky (see gauge above). I can only assume these behaviors are intentional and a feature of the UH-60. Similar bad things happen if you start to turn off other functions of the auto-flight control system. You can also give forward cyclic input and tap the brake to pick the tail up and balance on the front wheels, though the brakes aren't strong enough to hold it in place. The only really questionable flight behavior I saw is that it was not terribly difficult to perform a barrel roll, I only lost about 1,200ft in the process.

Short story is that there is a presumably well crafted set of flight mechanics based on the Acceleration EH101 with systems added to make a more challenging and realistic sim. If anyone wants to call this review out as under-informed, I concede up front...and am just trying to fill in gaps for a creation which looks to have a pretty serious amount of time invested and attention to detail.

Thanks for the info. Still not much on any of the other sites and I have not seen any vids. I think there must be only a few dozen of us left who buy these helis.

Initial and unfortunately quick test flight. As I hoped with Cera, most of the systems are modeled or at least look like they are with .xml gauges. Cold start all the way up to fly, most of the systems responded as they should, still need to check out a few things and look over the FDE. Hope to review it more inflight and try to not to rivet-count much, as most of the systems the average sim customer is not going to realize if they are working or not. Although I'm pretty fond of this aircraft having spent most of my career in them, it's worth the relatively reasonable price as is for any FS helo fan.

Hello,
Thanks Mr Kdfw for your med repaint.

Look at this, it's not too bad, who can make it please ?
It's the 542nd med co ...
Thank you in advance  ...

I like to flight with CERA's rotorcraft, a very good and beautiful engine, no deception for me. :medals:

Great painters are working on this great heli ! Even if I hope that cera will make a seahawk, a paint by jeansy will do the job as long as needed (better than the real seahawk on the market, IMHO)...

That said, I've made a long flight yesterday with the add-on. Very convincing, I feared that the black hawk would be annoying, because of his stability, but the simulation is very deep, the heli is alive and you've things to do, so it's very pleasant, as the other cerasim heli's are. Very happy.

same as other cera models, no issue w/ my box, i7 4ghz, gtx670.

Thanks, I picked it up last night, VERY good on framerates, really impressed with the graphics. I only wish it had the option like the nemeth birds do for a simple start so I can get in and fly.

Hello! It has a simple start button. Just roll for the first 2D panel available. There is a button there "Ready to take off" or something (Not in front my FS system right now to see the correct words)

Thanks!!! it was on the animation panel which I hadn't looked at yet, outstanding! Just finished an hour flying around, pretty impressed with this release, much more than the other Cera releases which I have all of them. Things that usually annoy me like rotor animations, poor texture work, modeling and handling are well done on this release. I can see this taking over as my main ride with the MilViz Huey taking a backseat now, LOL.

Now to go check out the paintkit.

$40+ USD. I can't seem to convince my other half. When's this going on sale? Ahh phooey I can't fly them that well anyway.
But it sure looks the part! And the feedback sounds positive!! Textures look great.

got a nice paint kit, hint, hint, hint, LOL.:kilroy:

same price as their other helis, I got it for $33.50 at Simmarket

$33.50 @ Simmarket sounds more justifiable. How'd you manage that?
I don't recall ever seeing a comment from you concerning my paint work, Michael. Thanks.

Downloading now. The $33.50 price is more to my liking, and the overtime at work makes the decision easier.

Oh snap. I hope this works in Prepar3D.

Are you in the U.S.? If you change the currency to dollars it is $34.50 without VAT.

Didn't you do a bunch of detailed paints for the Nemeth AS350??

I really like this aircraft the more I fly it. Here is me playing with the paintkit for 5 minutes, LOL.

5 minutes!! It looks good. Real good!!

I did do quite a few repaints for the AS350. Great backdrop as my easel. I enjoyed painting that one.
But this one, mainly armed forces roles. Who knows, I may paint it if I get the time. I bought it mainly for taking a break from my modeling project. I just hope I can fly it in an upright fashion with obliterating it!:icon_lol:

I already crashed it. Time to READ the manual?

Or better yet for the time being. I turned all the realism settings down to get it in the air.:icon_lol:

This one seems to be a lot faster in the air than the AS350. It's going to take time to get use to for sure. For the time being, my call sign is CRASH :kilroy:
BTW, all the switches confuse me currently. Until I found the autostart/all systems running function:mixedsmi:

Start working with the paintkit too - i like their kits :icon_lol: Here is a first shot to show you what i am working on ........ something from California ....

Greets :wavey: Dirk
