What is a good CFG editor that allows me the save the cfg files? Before i just used notepad to view and edit the CFG files. But for some reason windows will not let me save files using note pad.

Lemme Guess, Windows Vista? Perhaps even Win 7. The User account contriol is probably the culprit. A subject of much hair pulling, especially when you are the only user:

UAC will indeed do this. If it is the issue, no editor will get around it. However, the file can be saved elsewhere (e.g., desktop) and copied back in. I did this until I moved the FSX install to another drive finally. This allows leaving UAC activated as it does provide significant system security.
 
I would not suggest to a user who is not aware that there is something like UAC nor knows what that does to disable it.
I would use the method mfitch suggested. Or install FSX in an own folder structure (not under the default program files), preferably on a dedicated harddisk.
