Hey all, I have desided to reload CFS2 it has been many years since I last played this..
My question is, What are very high grade Scenery Texture and Effects files, ETC.. recommended now.. I realize after these many years there are great inprovements since I last flew CFS2.. Any recommendations will be most welcome.. I have a P-4 3.66 gig processer and 512 ASUS video card and 3 gig of RAM DDR2 and Sound card 32 bit sound, So I believe my machine is more then fast enough to handle any inprovements in CFS2..
I run CFS3 and all this with Highest settings all on 5.. So I think I shall reload CFS2 and see how it is now..Always Liked the Pacific Theater, and i'd like to do it again....

Thank You,

re-installs

I'd like to second that question. Having wandered afar with CFS3 and FSX, I discovered an old CFS2 install on a hard drive I was replacing on my daughter's hand-me-down computer. I still have the install cd, but would like to avoid trial and error upgrading. Any advice (sites, faqs, whatever)?

There seems to be a flood of guys heading back to CFS2. Guys, all I can tell ya is that everything in the CFS2 add-ons is top notch! Guys just keep coming up with more amazing stuff everyweek. It's like a candy store in the add-ons section. Have a blast, welcome back!

Here, here and here are the answers to those questions.

One of the principles that's operated down here in "The Basement" is:

The only stupid question is the one you don't ask!

We were all new once and know that dismissing people because of this doesn't help them get the most out of CFS2.

Once you start 'upgrading' the big problem is you won't stop!
Many of us now have seperate installs for different operational theatres and times.

The best idea though is to start with improving the stock game, and then you will get a better idea of how to do it for other installs later.

First up you want to get all The B24 Guy's stock aircraft Overhauls:

And DBolts excellent Corsair here and improved stock US weapons:

There is this step-by-step PTO scenery upgrade sheet:

I think that will set you off on the right road guys!

Thank You For the links, I am going to get back into CFS2 also..
It seems I've been absent too long..
I'll get this started and load some of the advised items..
Thank You..

Hobbit, Pete, welcome back, I've only been into CFS2 since October 2009. I went to a large download site for flightsims: CFS1, 100 Planes. CFS3, 300 planes. CFS2, 1500 planes. It still reigns.

A disturbing new factor has entered the communities: There's a crazy night fighter jockey out there, muahahahahaha.

Rhumba Flappy's mesh is the current standard for the complete world. He did a fantastic sets of LOD 4, 5, 7, and LOD 8. There are other very good mesh sets out there for specific locations, but I think Rhumba's is a fantastic 'overall' view. Also BSK did Malta which is a MUST HAVE if your PC is on the powerful side, then someone (I forget who I'M SORRY!) who did a must have job with Gibralter. Then there is of course the up and coming Pearl harbor Project. The ships and missions are not done yet, but the mesh is fantastic for Oahu, the airfields and infrastructure are I'd say 90-98% complete, and the aircraft are done. As far as textures, that is a very subjective topic. I use PacTex1 for most if not all my world textures. Just what I'm used to and like. There are lots of other paks out there, and easy to test out and try. As far as adding on bases, there are a lot, but for the 'basics'. Anything from Maskrider, Exavier, BSK, and Achime. There is a great BoB airfield set out there which include Gravesend, but I can't remember by who (DUH!) Now for effects. I use he same effects that I grabbed oh 8-9 years ago. I haven't seen any newer examples released, or I'm just happy with what I have. But to me the bid three when it comes to looking for effects are Ghost Pony, Nibbo, and Nanni. Try out what you like. http://web.tiscalinet.it/jobim/cfs2/ http://web.tiscalinet.it/Nanni/CFS/index.htm http://theghostfiles.org/CFS2p1.htm And Aircraft? Way to many to recommend in one sitting! Welcome to the basement!

Yup Ruhmba's max LOD is 8 for his mesh. I'd still grab everything of his and install it, makes the world look nice!

Does LOD 8 cover areas in addition to the stock PTO theater, i.e. does it cover loctions such as China, Southeast Asia, etc.?
