CFS in Win 10?

You guys have such fun planes that we dont have in FS :jump:

Hi zswobbie1,

Not only do we have a lot of really fun aeroplanes (we do tend to build some really strange ones) but you never know what will come next. Join us if you can.

It is a Microsoft Sidewinder Precision 2 joystick. It is working in control panel and in the game settings. It is enabled but it will not work in missions. Below is the cfg file after trying it. (I hope)

okay, i've got it.
at least the game didn't delete it.

it will take me a bit to check it out.
i'll repost it when i'm finished.

Tried it, did not work either. I think I will install CFS3 and see if I can get it to work. I never cared for it but better than nothing I guess. I just hope the update that gets rid of the fisheye is still available.

CFS3 and WIN 10

Hello RickN I found my old CFS3 Disks Last week still in the jacket like new and thought i would try to install on this WIN 10 machine. After several attempts and no luck.I watched a couple of Youtube vids began again,it would all load up watched the video that always shows when it starts,I had no#1 disk in a external disk drive after the vid ended i would get a error message. so i would uninstall and repeat. Then I downloaded the no disk patch installed that still the same thing. Then I remembered the directX config and was not sure if the newer directX if have would be compatable. With the patch installed I ran the directX config set the compatibility to Run as Administrator, then set compatibility mode WIN 7.Fired it up for what seemed like the 1000th time and it was good to see that pilot standing beside his P 47.Then I started setting setting up my preferences Flew a few flights and shut it down. When fired it back up after the intro vid played it would show error stating that "CFS3 was not closed out or shut down correctly when exiting the software" I would back to the compatibility settings and make more changes with no luck, So i would uninstall and reinstall about 10 to 15 times of this and it would always run after the intro and i could run it as long as i wanted to,but when i closed it out the next time I would get it fired up the not closed message would come on instead of the pilot.Knowing it is something simple I was doing in the config or set up process and it is always the simple stuff that gets Ya.
On the 15th install, this time i set all my settings flew a few flights again but this time I DID NOT set the resolution to 32 bit I left itset to 16 bit and finally it has been like solid state transistor radio.I thought since I have a more powerful machine 32 bit would be no problem but it is. It is lot better than i remember it because when it was new i did not have a machine that could handle the game on the lowest of setting and i did a pretty powerful XP machine back then but it would hang up and all but now it is like something brand new and very cool with all the addons they have for it.CFS3 has became one of my most favorite games.Sorry this is so lengthy and I hope it helps anyone trying to get it going.

I can not get CFS3 to run either. I installed the updates and the NO CD patch since I read you need it to run on Win10. Still no joy. I think I am going to order in a couple of 8 gb sticks of DDR3 and set up a machine to run Win 7 for now and maybe run this one on XP. That should let me play all my games including FEAR and Serious Sam, not to mention all the CFS series.

am curious about the
set the compatibility to Run as Administrator,
then set compatibility mode WIN 7...
comment.
by chance, did you run it for xp when installing Combat Flight Simulator?

Yep none of the CFS series will run on this machine no matter what I do. CFS1 comes the closet as the game will start and it sees the joystick but it will not work in missions. CFS2 and 3 will not even start. I did order in the memory I need for another machine along with a refurbished video card that I will use in my XP machine. So by next weekend I should have a good PC running WIN7 and a decent one running XP. Windows 10 can go away for now. :untroubled:

Thanks for your help guys. I got my computer parts in and assembled last night. I decided to try Windows 7 first and if it did not work I would change it to XP. It did work and I just flew a free flight to test it. Now all I need to do is reload all my old planes and missions and learn to fly it again. I think 1 TB of storage space, 16 GB ddr and a 4 GB video card should run it just fine. :biggrin-new:
