CFS2 cfg. file Explantion

Hi guys,

Does any know where there might be an explanation of a the values in the cfg. file? Seems to me I remember seeing a breakdown of all the values, what they do and what best to set them at but I dont remember where. No specific value in mind, I just wanted to refresh my mind on what they all do. Thanks

Values

Code 7 (is that moniker cop speak for "at dinner"?)

lots of values in the cfg file and from plane to plane, they are not always the same. It would be easier to answer if you were specific on which values as everything from moments of inertia to contact points can be in the file.

I think you guys are off the track. He's asking for a "tutorial" for the main cfs2.cfg file, not aircraft cfgs.

Codeseven: as Jagd suggests you might be specific and ask about which sections you have questions, otherwise wait for the 300 page, small print book to be published soon.

The setting values will vary greatly depending on things like: what settings (location, weather etc) you last used in [Free Flight], your current pilot status in [Campaigns] and many on other areas of cfs2 like Quick Combat, Training and Multiplayer. Joystick settings are listed there as well.

Thanks guys.

Yes, I was referring to the main CFS2 cfg. file, not individual airplane cfg."s. I've been away from CFS2 for awhile and wanted to re-familiarize myself with what those values do so I could configure the Configure File :)

300 page book? Seriously? Cool!

(I spent many years as a Paramedic in busy areas and the rare times would would get a break is when we were 10-7, 'Out Of Service' :))

"0" means it isn't going to do anything.
I will give you a brief look at the ones I have monkeyed with.

Take a look at this:

[LANGUAGE]
DLL=english.fll
[MAIN]
ShowLogo=1
ShowMovie=0
...................................................

[CONTROLS]
force_master_gain=0
force_stick_force_enabled=0
force_stick_shaker_enabled=0
force_gear_bump_enabled=0
force_crash_enabled=0
force_ground_bumps_enabled=0
force_machinegun_enabled=0
force_bulletdamage_enabled=0
force_rocket_enabled=0
force_bomb_enabled=0
force_flak_enabled=0
PAN_RATE=400

Now, I do not have a force feedback joystick. If you do, don't change the [CONTROLS] =1 to =0

There are other twixes and tweaks you can do in the CFS2.cfg, but you can do them in your settings menu options in the game.

hope this helps.

Here is a link to a pretty good article by Thomas McGuire published way back in Jan 2001 at TechSpot.com

Combat Simulator 2 Tweak Guide

Not only does it do a great job covering tweaks that can be made from within the games settings menus, it also does a great job taking one thru the different sections of the cfs2.cfg file and tweaking them.

It isn't totally comprehensive- after all, a whole decade of other tweaks to the cfg file have flowed under the bridge since this article was written- but it should help you find your way around the cfs2.cfg file.

Thanks.

All of that helps (geez, it's been almost 10yrs since I've seen that Tweak Guide!).

I'll keep digging around and when I find the article I'm thinking of I'll post it back here.
