Hello to all; cfs2 mission builder is a great tool,I was wondering if the community could recommend some "upgrades" to the stock game? The ships look like my kids lego blocks,and the rest of the infrastructure isn't much better.I'd like tried and true addons, thanks folks........happy trails

For ships try: http://www.geocities.jp/usio_no_ibuki/index.htm , http://www.simviation.com/lair/cfs2shipyard.htm , and in the library here, The Virtual Navy ships. Be sure to grab the modidied DPs by Pen32Win: afshipdp0307.zip by Pen32Win: http://www.sim-outhouse.com/sohforums/page.php?lloc=downloads&loc=downloads&page=info&FileID=8532 , Nibbio's/Nanni's effects: http://web.tiscali.it/Nanni/CFS/ ,

Here in the library you csn find great scenery and library objects by Maskrider, Leroy 10, XavierB, Pen32Win and others. You might want to get Cody Coypte's Mission Builder Tutorial/Handbook too.

All this is just a start and for the PTO mostly.

Hello to all; Thanks for the feedback,I downloaded a couple of usio no ibuki's ships,there were no instructions so I unziped and pasted them in the ships folder in the program file.They show up there along with the other ships but aren't showing up in the mission builder manifest.where did I go wrong? I'd like to make the ibuki ships the default ships ,if possible.I also got some effects from the site mentioned,changing dp's and whatnot is a little beyond me(I'm really computer illiterate)Maybe some kind soul would walk me through it? I'd like to donate so y-all can keep up the good work.... I don't fool with credit cards,but would love to send a money order if you'll provide an address.Thanks for the help

Try this: here is a copy of my mdlnames.dat file with Usio's (most of em) ships already on it. That may help with the Mission Builder issue. As for how to make them default ships. you can place the contents of the default ships in a backup folder and drop the contents of the Usio folder into the default folder. Rename the cfg file to read (example...)

[fltsim.0]
title=CV Shokaku
sim=shj_shokaku
model=
panel=
sound=
texture=

...and change the MISC_DATA unit family and category to the correct ones for that type of ship - Usio always uses 7/13 to make all of his ships carriers.

[MISC_DATA]
unit_family=7
category=13
allegiance=4
min_speed=0
cruise_speed=55
max_speed=55
entered_service=12/1/41

I would save the default ships as they are and just place Usio's in the SHIPS folder. There are times when you might not want to use them because they are very demanding on framerates.

Be sure to grab some of Colin's ships, especially the Essex class carriers.

I see the wisdom in not messing with the default ships.So.... I'm to copy the provided mdlnames.dat file,and paste it into the Mission Builder ships folder? Thanks,

NO! Make a copy of your original mdlnames file (in the main cfs2 folder) for a backup, and use mine in its place.

Muddobber I use acman and shipman to change the aircraft and ships to any other aircraft or ships I want to use for missions.

Thanks shadow wolf for the guidance and your patience(told you I was computer challenged haha) Hey OlAF, whats the skinny on shipman etc? Please explain. Hey, concerning those effects addons,would anyone care to walk me through the process of installing nanni's "debris"? I'm assuming the same process would be similar for all his addons. THANKS loads folks for taking the time with me and to those who develop those addons,a big thank you also.

Install his "Nanni's Config - All Ships" download first - replacing the .cfgs and .dps he gives you for each stock/default ship with the ones in the download. Then the effects like "debris" will work right (the new dps are set up for them). All you'll have to do then is copy and paste his debris effects files into your effects folder. Follow his instructions and you'll be okay.

I loaded the text you sent,following your instructions.....ALL went well,the ships look great.I don't think I'll press my luck doing anymore tonight.I'll give nanni's debris thing a whirl tomorrow.As a matter of interest,I work around cattle all day long ,but never sweated as much as when I'm fooling with the computer.You folks are just amazing

You also have to delete the cdp file in the ships you put the new dp and cfg files into. If you don't do this the new effects won't work. The cdp will be rebuilt automatically when the ship is used in a mission.

Muddobber shipman or ship manager can be found over at simviation look under CG shipyards. Look at the bottom of the page for utilites. This is a great site for great cfs2 wwII and korea era ships.

Yes, I forgot to mention that... Always delete the cdp file when you make a change to a plane or ship or object.

Hey Guys;Lets see if I have this right.....I need to delete the cdp files for the ships to work in mission builder.I do this by going into the cfs2 program files?I assume it's easy to find.I'm assuming you were a paratrooper,i was with 7th Special Forces during the 70's (alot lower tech back then).Thanks for you continuing support9GOD knows I need it)

Save a shortcut to your main CFS2 game folder on your desktop... right click on it and choose "Search." Type in ccdp and run the search. It will find all the cdps in the CFS2 folder. Select all and delete. or... for windows7/vista, open the folder. On the top right corner there is a rectangle that says: "Search Combat Flight Simulator 2." Click on that box and type in cdp. It will automatically search for all the cdps. When it finishes the search, click on the "Organize" tab (top left) and Select All and Delete... presto!

Delete cdps each time you make a change in one of the folders (ship or plane) so the change will take.

good Morning all; Thanks for the help... I'll give it a whirl. Got alot of chores to catch up on ,so.....I'll be out of your hair for a while.take care and again thanks

I was with the 82nd in the late 70's, 5th SF in the 80's, Berlin Brigade in the late 80s and JRTC in the early 90s.

CDPs are not folders... they are files, generated each time an object is used in a mission. They contain the damage info for that object and each time you make a change to an object, the change won;t show in the game until a new cdp is generated (ie: you must delete the old one).
You are not "in our hair"... we enjoy helping each other

SW;
Realized that they are files. Slip of the typing brain here when I wrote "folders". Thought I had corrected it before hitting the "enter" key.:icon_lol:
