CFS3 and Windows 8?

Separate Installs for ETO

Major Magee: Could you give detailed instructions on how to do separate installs foe ETO? This may work better for those with Windows 8 or 8.1.

Okay assuming you have ETO installed and fully patched up.

1. Set your install to Era 1 as that's the default.

2. Make five extra copies of the entire install location and then give each one a unique descriptive name.
For example: 1945 Copy of CFS3 ETO Expansion
This will take quite a while as there are lots of files to copy over.

Keep your original ETO install complete and don't change anything there since it's your default back-up for everything else you're about to do.

3. Run MultiCFS3.exe from inside each one and give them each distinct names.
For example: CFS3 ETO 1945______________

4. Create a desktop shortcut for each different copy of CFS3.exe using the same descriptive names.

5. Run each copy to make sure they work. (They will all still be set to the default 1940 version at this point)
This sets up the custom named directories in your Documents Folder and AppData/Roaming/Microsoft/
You may need to run cfs3config.exe for each one as well.

Now you're ready to customize each install to its own Era.

6. The first one is already set up in the default configurations so there nothing to do here until step 8.

7. The files that are unique to each of the other Eras are (each starting with the prefix BOB, 1943, 1944, or 1945):

Uires Folders
Missions Folders
qclocqtions.xml
splash24b.bmp
global_layer.csv (these files are in the global_layer folder)
gsl.lib (these files are in the global_layer folder)

Delete the default version and change the name of the appropriate equivalent by deleting the prefix
For example: delete the uires folder then rename the 1945_uires folder to uires

8. Delete each of the other Era specific files and folders that you are not going to be using.

Once you have this done don't try to run the Era selector for one of these custom installs or it may mess things up.
