I get this error msg from time to time after ETO starts normally and I finish the process of choosing the flight type/a/c type/location, ect. Other times, it starts right up and I am in the cocpit. Two possiblities on my part:

a) Choosing a "campaign" spawn mode and then selecting a "Free Flight" or non-campaign mission

b) When selecting flight type, a/c, and location, the paramaters do not match.

Can either of these "operator errors" cause ETO to shut down?

are you flying a mission when it happens, or in a campaign? Or in QC?

Have you switched between a campaign and a mission? Care needs to be taken to make sure the spawns, and global layer match the era of the mission or campaign you are flying in. Otherwise things will mismatch and lock up.
 
It happens when I choose "Free Flight" or "Ground Attack"; I guess that would be QC mode. I think I may have been trying some of the other spawn options...So I take it that unless I am actually enguaged in a Campaign, to select spawn opt #1 (?).

So it sounds like you are flying in QC mode. IIRC, random spawns are not usually active in QC mode. Spawn options are more important if you are flying missions or campaigns.

However its worth checking that the global layer.csv file is actually the right one for the era you are selecting. Same goes for the spawn files - physically check that they are the ones you think you have selected. Sometimes the files get out of synch with the .bat files - don't know how or why. So I manually check the files sometimes.

It might also be worth deleting the uisel file found under your Docs and Settings/Application Data/Microsoft/ etc. pathway is. (not the one found in your root install!).

To be honest, I get opt 1 and opt 2 in the Spawns Selector app confused. What is the difference?

Spawn Mode 1 is for the stock spawns that happen when you are flying in a campaign(basic) or QC mode.. whenever you get near airbases of the enemy in this mode the Sim will spawn enemy aircraft..

Spawns mode 2 disables all spawns, so when you are flying a mission you don't get unwanted stock spawns popping up, an example is in a stock spawn mode enabled , the Sim will spawn enemy aircraft whenever you cross into enemy areas, around enemy airbases ..
But in missions this will interfere with how the mission may be set up to play out..
When flying Missions I always use Spawns Disabled Mode 2.
So I don't have aircraft popping up at unwanted times..
 
Very good expanation HH, thank you. Now, when insatlling certain add-on packs for ETO, the instuctions say to 'Place the Spawn Selector in #2 choose ERA #1...At that point do you close the APP or let it run, then shut it down? Could be the reason for my "missing missions".
