CG CFS2 Ships in FS9

Hello,

Those who know CFS2 and the magnificent CG ships that Collin has done realize they are phenomenal works - his HMS Ocean, and his USS Essex 1950 era ships are magnificent.

So, I thought, "surely someone's thought of this" - but since I didn't know, I thought of asking:

For the good number of us who enjoy 1950's era naval aviation, wouldn't those ships be the perfect answer as landable, albeit non-moving ships? Assuming one could get Collins' approval to do so, could they be recompiled somehow into an addon scenery? A flatten file, etc. Of course, I say this as the guy with no skills, but for what the ideas worth ...

Just a thought ... ideas?

My knowledge of FS2004 ships is...well...none existant. If someone who knows how to work with FS2004 ships would be willing to work with Collin on this, I could ask him if he would export the needed bgl files for the ships.

I once tried to use a CFS2 ship as a scenery object, hoping to make it landable, but I didn't get very far.

I managed to make it show up in FS9, but I just barely had time to see it there before FS9 would crash.

Just the fact that it showed up at all makes me think that someone who knows more than me might make it work.

I hope so! I would dearly love to have some straight deck Essex and Midway carriers in my "Flight Simulator 1954: A Half Century of Flight."

I knew you would be all over this, Mick!

I can do AI - give me an AFCAD, and I can make carrier a/c do their thing. The scenery bgls, alas, is where the real trick isn't it?

Yes, mine is an FS1955 install - great period, isn't it?

For my own personal use I managed to covert some of colins ships into pilotable non landable AI traffic using the Fs9 fletcher class destroyer by Phil Crowtheras a template. just as an experiment the models do show up ok and they work perfectly as AI traffic but of course weren't land able.

It would be great if someone could convert them into landable models FS9 could use some more RN carriers to suppliment Ark royal IV and the old Alpha Hermes

I sent Collin a PM asking if he would be willing to work with someone to bring his ships into FS9 as landable carriers. I am waiting to hear back from him.

Doesn't one of the Razbam Skyhawk packs also include a Colossus Class carrier (albeit in antipodean colours)? Would Ron be open to expanding our horizons by making that standalone, or even available as a bgl file for others to work with - the possibilities there are immense!

Yes, I have that pack (Skyhawk 2, I believe). It's ok. It's in Australia, which is nice, but again, locations in say Korea, Suez, etc. would be nice. Doubtful he'd release it - but only Ron can say.

How DO you get AI to work properly on a carrier? especially one which requires a catapult?
Prior to the advent of the Alphasim Enterprise, I use a certain autogyro air file. Worked well for prop-types (Skyraiders, Corsairs, etc.) Now, I use the air files from the Big E fighters (the A-6 for all my jets) and that works nicely. Yanco's AI planes would have good air files for carrier use, though I've just stuck with my tried and true autogyro file for my slower planes. They come in a bit slower than real (looks like about about 40-50 kts over the deck - but hey, it's a sim.

There's likely better approaches, but that's my system.

I have seen CFS2 ships converted to AI FS9 ships. It is not possible to make landable moving objects in FS9. There would be a possible solution to create a landable carrier: 1.-convert the CFS ship in a FS9 AI ship, 2.-make a AI static plan and 3.- place a AFCAD-created runway in the same position, or a hard deck created with Gmax. I have no experience doing the points 1 and 2, but I have a lot of experiencie with the third one

Hola amigo - viva la Furia Roja! :) I'm a Spaniard, living in Canada.

Yes, I'm totally clear that in FS9, you have EITHER moving AI ships or static non-moving scenery ships. The question I had was whether Essex and Colossus class ships could be converted into the latter - a scenery .bgl. I wonder if the scenery gurus have any insight into those first couple of steps. Obio - any word from Collin?

thanks,

There is a Colossus class ship for FS9, the Arromanches, by Joel Maillot.

I have not tested it, but I suppose it will have a landable deck. It could be a good idea to ask him for permission to make a library object with his carrier to place it at wish.

Un saludo desde la tierruca. A ver si ganamos de una vez un mundial.

the Hawker Sea fury upgrade pack by Peter J Forster contains 2 Royal Navy repaints for the Arromanches scenery one is of HMS Ocean and the Other is Glory I believe

Arromanches is landable...tho in my experience mostly crashable; I get traps using RCB gauges.

I believe she is placed in the med, but may be moved by competent scenarists. I dont know if she's a library object however.
