Changing Obj DP and DOGS

I know what I want to do ... just don't know how to do it.

It's my PERSONAL opinion that the Soviet Bombs (fab1000, fab500,fab250 and fab100) are not quite right. I think they should be fab500, fab250, fab125 and fab25 based on their relative size to our 1000lb, 500lb, and 250lb bombs.

If you hang a db 500lb gp bomb on a P-39 and then hang the equivalent Fab250 on the same aircraft ... it sure looks like things don't match up.

I am guessing, but I think the builder (whom I ENVY for his graphic skills) may just have mis-named and mis-valued them.

I'd just like to be able to get into the three component parts and #1 ... rename them (fab1000(kg) = fab500(kg) , etc. and #2 just change the damage dice values to reflect this change.

Is this easily explained to an old guy ... or do one of you hotshots want to just dive in and make the changes and let me know?

Howdy Again Bill;

First off are the BGL's in a Library File or are there individual BGL's for each weapon?

One thing to remember when working with bombs in CFS2;
CFS2 creates bomb damage in two very different ways.

1. If the bomb strikes the targets DP Boxes the hit point number in the Bombs DP is applied to the target.

In case 1 the damage value in the bombs DP Gunstation section is used.
A 1000lb bomb looks like this:

It delivers 10000 Hit Points to the directly to the DP of the object it hits. Pretty simple and straight forward so far. If the bomb/rocket makes a direct hit it acts just like a bullet as far as the target DP is concerned.

2. If the bomb strikes the ground next to the target CFS2 uses 3 different FX's depending on the weapon_type in the bombs DP.

This is were things get messy. First off there are 4 different “weapon_type”s that cover all of the different bombs. Type 1 is the lightest, like the 30 & 60kg and 250Lb’ers. Type 2 covers the 250kg and 500lb bombs. Type 3 is for the 1000lb bomb and Type 4 is used by the 800kg and 2000lb bombs. Now that that’s clear let’s make mud. When a bomb strikes the ground in CFS2 the program selects one of 3, yes 3 and not 4 FX to trigger. You’d think there would be 4 FX since there are 4 different weapons types, right? Nope. Here’s how things work out. The 3 Effects are the fx_gndexpl_s, m & l. Type 1 bombs use the “s” FX. Type 2 uses the “m” FX and Types 3 & 4 both use the “l” FX.

And that is how CFS2 Damages ground objects with Bombs!

See, my problem with these bombs is not their destructive power, but rather their graphically relative size to comperable weight weapons.

On the basis of physical size alone, the Fab-500 (which is a 500kg bomb) is the size of our 500 pound bomb. (I think it should be the size of out 1000 pounder) The Fab-250 (which is a 250kg bomb) is just waaaay to small when compared to our 500 pounder or the Japanese
250kg bomb. When naming them, he thought in terms of "pounds" rather than "kilograms". (I just want to shift all of them down one level in name and then substitute the correct damage dice in the same manner.)

I want to change the names (and then the internal values) as follows:

wep_fab-1000 wep_Fab-500kg Bomb
wep_fab-500 wep_Fab-250kg Bomb
wep_fab-250 wep_Fab-100Kg Bomb
wep_fab-100 wep_Fab-50Kg Bomb

So my question is what;s he trick to getting inside the BGL's and BMP's and OBJ DP's to change the name so the computer will recognize them and find them? I've tried, but no matter what I've done ... I get the "can't find message" and have to assume that I'm missing a critical step or something that, while the "name is changed" ... the computer says it really isn't.

Hope I'm making sense. I know what I want to do ... just a little hard to get it out. Must be age!

That you can do in the MDLNames.dat, it's located in the root CFS2 folder.

You'll see something like this, or you may have to create the entry.

"WEP_US_500lb_GP"=U.S. 500 lb General Purpose Bomb

To Change the same BGL to Read as a 250lb Bomb you'd change it to this:

"WEP_US_500lb_GP"=U.S. 250 lb General Purpose Bomb

Nothing else changes, just what you see when you select the weapon.
 
When changing the size like this, you may need to readjust the hang point on the aeroplane's bomb rack in the DP file a smidgen.

It was great! It was my son's last pheasant hunt with me before he leaves for college so it was a pretty special day for us. Our bird dog was spot on and we and an old army buddy of mine all got our limits under fair skies and mild temperatures. I wish I could bottle days like that.

The dog, Flitzer by name, is a five year old Britanny. He's the "birdiest" bird dog that I've ever had and he can conjure up pheasants where no other dog can.

As Will Rogers once said: "If dogs don't go to heaven, then I want to go where the dogs go."

A man and his dog were walking along a road. The man was enjoying the scenery, when it suddenly occurred to him that he was dead.

He remembered dying, and that the dog walking beside him had been dead for years. He wondered where the road was leading them.

After a while, they came to a high, white stone wall along one side of the road. It looked like fine marble. At the top of a long hill, it was broken by a tall arch that glowed in the sunlight.

When he was standing before it he saw a magnificent gate in the arch that looked like mother-of-pearl, and the street that led to the gate looked like pure gold. He and the dog walked toward the gate, and as he got closer, he saw a man at a desk to one side.

When he was close enough, he called out, "Excuse me, where are we?"

"This is Heaven, sir," the man answered.

"Wow! Would you happen to have some water?" the man asked.

"Of course, sir. Come right in, and I'll have some ice water brought right up."

The man gestured, and the gate began to open.

"Can my friend," gesturing toward his dog, "come in, too?" the traveler asked.

"I'm sorry, sir, but we don't accept pets."

The man thought a moment and then turned back toward the road and continued the way he had been going with his dog.

After another long walk, and at the top of another long hill, he came to a dirt road leading through a farm gate that looked as if it had never been closed. There was no fence.

As he approached the gate, he saw a man inside, leaning against a tree and reading a book.

"Excuse me!" he called to the man. "Do you have any water?"

"Yeah, sure, there's a pump over there, come on in."

"How about my friend here?" the traveler gestured to the dog.

"There should be a bowl by the pump."

They went through the gate, and sure enough, there was an old-fashioned hand pump with a bowl beside it.

The traveler filled the water bowl and took a long drink himself, then he gave some to the dog.

When they were full, he and the dog walked back toward the man who was standing by the tree.

"What do you call this place?" the traveler asked.

"This is Heaven," he answered.

"Well, that's confusing," the traveler said. "The man down the road said that was Heaven, too."

"Oh, you mean the place with the gold street and pearly gates? Nope.

That's hell."

"Doesn't it make you mad for them to use your name like that?"

"No, we're just happy that they screen out the folks who would leave their best friends behind."
 
Reminds me of an old Twilight Zone episode.

A man and his coon dog go out hunting one night. His dog, named Rip, is killed by a racoon in a creek and the old man jumps in to try and save him. The story ends up much like the story above. Great episode. Think for a moment about the dog's name.

Off topic to be sure, but great fun anyway!

Your son looks so much like you. A good looking young man that I am sure you are quite proud of.

I once read a poem or short story or something of that sort with a lot of words and not many pictures (took me a few weeks to get it all read.....the lack of pictures was a big handicap!). Anyhooo...the jist of the story was that dogs are the first ones to great their masters when their masters cross over to the other side. If that is the case, I will be warmly met by a good number of pooches who have graced me with their companionship over the years. Black Jack...a German Shephard/King Shephard cross who raised me from the age of 8 to the age of 18. Athena and Marble...two of the dumbest dogs I have ever known....but two of the most loyal and dedicated mutts to ever grace this earth...those two female currs would crawl through fire to get to me when I whistled for them and would stay close enough to see me when we were in the woods. Chunk...a German Shephard/American Pit Bull Terrier/Boxer mix...his life was cut short by canine epilepsy before he was 9 months old...but in those 9 months he did a life time of living and playing. Goof...a young German Shephard that was brought to me from the local pound....my sister saved him from being put to sleep and brought him to me to nurse back to health. Poor fella had been confined to a small cage for so long that his back legs would not work...a few months of stretching and strengthening got him trotting around again....maybe too well..he was killed by a car when he chased a squirrel across the road. Spud...the handsome dog in my avatar....he was the "son" I was never able to have...there was a bond between that dog and I like none I have ever known with any other dog. Going on two years since he died at the age of 17 months from seizures...and I still miss him dearly and still shed more than a few tears almost daily at his absence. Silly for a man on nearly 40 to be so deeply effected by the loss of a dog...but he was the ultimate dog in every way.

I just said the other day while out hunting that after I leave Fiddler's Green on my way to the Pearly Gates, I hope that all my old dogs are there to greet me.

For those that aren't familiar with Fiddler's Green, it's a medow with a cold stream running though it and it is as peacefull as a place as can be. The rumor is that any old US Cavalryman gets to stop there on his way to report in to Saint Peter. I'm hoping that my tour with the 2/17 Air Cavalry gets me in even though my trusted mount was a Huey instead of a horse.
 
OBIO - Not Silly at All!

I'll be riding to the Gates with a string of Quarter Horses, Aussie Shepherds and Border Collies trailing along. If they won't let us all in we'll just keep ridin'. It's where we're always the happiest anyway.

May we all find our four legged friends that have gone before waiting for us, when we meet our end. :ernae:
