Glad to see the pilot ejected. They have issues with vessels as well...
The vessel did completely sink but was raised. If this video is any indication, it would seem that Chinese manufacturing is growing very quickly, but there still are some elements within their industries that may not be keeping pace. I wonder how that translates to their home grown aviation industry.

PLANAF Snow Leopard strike aircraft. Yipes! that sucker just stopped flying. Looks like the 'Command ONOFF' switch works just fine. I wonder what happened there? Perhaps the same gust of wind that put the Wrong March into the Ville in '96?

High tech failures seem to plague all who dabble in it. There is some pretty spectacular footage of German V2 failures, Russian and US failures over at Utube and other locations. It's interesting that the Chinese are so open about this tragedy given the close hold that they have on any news coming out of the Celestial Kingdom.
I looked up the Chinese JH-7 jet involved and found it to look much like the SEPECAT Jaguar. Of course form follows function, but it does share a high wing, shoulder mounted air inlets and similar landing gear location and retraction. It's only been operational for about 7 or so years and they lost one earlier in a combined Russian-Chinese excercise. Apparently it uses license built copies of the Spey Mk 202 turbofan engine.
Has anyone made one of these for flight sims? I haven't seen or heard of one.

Someone forgot to close the scuttle cocks? Actually, it appears that because of the excessively steep angle of their "slip," water simply poured over the fantail and flooded the vessel.
That boat launching clip reminded me of a Buster Keaton silent flick I watched last week. Buster's standing on deck as the boat he's building slides down the ways and it doesn't float at all, just continues to submerge. Buster's suddenly in water up to his neck. 
The Chinese are trying to rapidly compensate for 30-40 years of low-tech, they're going to have a lot of failures as they get their technology level up to modern day. You may remember the high-speed train disaster from a few months back. It won't be the last such disaster they have on their railroads. Ten years ago they were still running steam locomotives.

Wait till they get a CV in the chuck. Different society, different standards. A number of authors have commented that the far east is like 'Disneyland with no safety protocols'( Stephenson, on the Phillipines);' Disneyland with the death penalty'( Gibson on Singapore) India does it up right too. 2 taxis colliding results in 300+ casualties. Wacky.
The Indian navy had a Bolivian navy day back in june. One of their new frigates got in front of a container ship in Mumbai harbour, broad daylight, good visibility( for Mumbai) damage control in the best traditions of monty python, with predictable results. Straight to the bottom. Some facepalm happened in Goa that day.
It looks a bit like the hydraulics crapped out for that SnowLeopard. Wouldn't mind seeing a bit more of the flight leading up to the event, get a better idea if it was sytems or keister in a crack. The JH-7 is fairly heavy and rather underpowered, and has been suffering from quality issues. The attrition rate sugests that it can be a handful (especially with the low flying hours Chinese Aviators are allowed) probably why the PLAAF fobbed it off on the PLAN.
