Chipmunk released

On first impressions, am finding it very interesting....not so sure on the wind sounds, seems to have almost STOL flight characteristics on take off, brakes seem a little fierce and can't fly it with the canopy open. Seems to shut on take off.

Going back for more,

Cheers,

Martin

Hi Martin,

You must have the canopy shut for all takeoffs and landings in a standard Chipmunk. In the bubble, you must have it open for all takeoffs and landings.

If you wish to fly with the canopy open, you need to equalise the pressure in the canopy of the standard Chippies. Tod do this you need to push the flap in the roof, open. This equalises pressure and allows you to open the canopy in flight.

In the bubble, you can open the canopy by pulling the cord on the right canopy rail. This operates a small spoiler flap fitted to the rear of the canopy. It creates drag which makes sliding the canopy back in the slipstream easy.

We are looking at the stall and braking.

Many thanks, knew there was something that I was doing wrong....was a long time ago now and not something that you do often in the UK, with the weather that we normally experience. Did look out for the flap, the other day when had a little jolly in APLO, but then forgot today when doing the same. Must be old age.

Cheers,

Martin

Regarding the bubble canopy fuel selector, it indicates that it is supposed to be selectable. But I cannot select the right fuel tank. It is stuck in the left tank position.

I like it...
Sounds great
Nice exteriors and interiors
its a classic aircaft
good price
two models
mil and civ pilots
plus I am a big fan of the chippie

you can't go wrong... Nice job guys :applause::applause::applause:

Question, what is the MilBubbleShine Model??? tried it and can seem to see any difference

Bought the Chipmonk and love it. Superbly done and a dream to fly.
visability incredible. I think this will become my favourite, especially
with Orbx scenery. I hope some one can do an Irish Air Corp repaint.

Hi John,

Don't know what's going on there.

Try shutting down and a Cntrl/E start. The fuel selector should automatically go to left tank and the engine start.
Now mouse the lever to the right position.

It's working fine here.

It's for the repainters if they prefer to have a shiny military version. They need to add alpha greys to create the shine and then use this model in the sim.

No worries Martin, at my age I have a lot of trouble finding my emergency flap....:engel016:

Before i start .. i just want to say that this isnt ment a dig at AH or JF, its not a "dUdE your planz RUBBISH LOLZZZ!!" post at all. Its ment as constructive criticism, and yes, i know full well the work that goes into making planes after having done some myself. I do however, feel the need to air this so hopefully either baz and the AH team or JF take note of it. Again, this isnt ment as anything other than comments that might help make future planes from AH/JF better. So with that out of the way ...

I do feel a little ripped off and i'm really glad i didnt pay full price for these, specially as its marketed as:

"Special textures on wing surfaces for a realistic ‘stretched, doped linen’ appearance"
"Nine military and civilian HD liveries"
"Every detail for all the switches, knobs and levers of the real aircraft is authentically reproduced"

The textures are a bit special, in that they dont look realistic and are most certainly not HD, i know you have to hype a product when selling it but there is a point when it turns into false advertisement. Also not EVERY switch, knob and lever works, so that bit isnt true either.

So a run down

mesh = fine, perhaps even top notch. I can only think of a few little things (which are little) that might be improved on, which i'll explain later.
sounds = fine, wind is prolly a little loud for my tastes, but having never flown in a chippie i dont know if it really is that loud or not
flight dynamics = again, they feel "right", seems to take off a little quickly, but again, as i've never flown in a chippie i dont if it does that or not.
textures = now this is where i get a bit frustrated. Heres why, sorry if i sound a bit blunt, but to cut down on length i'm keeping it short, and to the point.

Heres some pictues, with issues highlighted:

You should spend some time getting some new pilot figures, they look odd to say the least, and have some very funky mesh around the shoulders

Noticeable lines along the wing root and fuse. Without looking at wireframes i'm not sure if its a mesh issue or texture issue, but its obvious, very obvious at some angles.

shadow when there shouldnt be a shadow, nothing to cast one!

2014-6-13_9-4-11-900.jpg

no chippie in the world that i've seen has had weathering that even comes close to resembling that look

2 niggles in this one, the mesh could use a few more polys (red highlight) and the tip doesnt follow the stick (green highlight), which looks a bit odd when in game

2014-6-13_9-6-19-230.jpg

again, dodgy weathering, unless a plane has been sat outside of a museum it will never get vertical streaks along the line of the airflow.

the cockpit is generaly low rez all around and is a shame as it makes the actually well modeled cockpit mesh look poor. Theres plenty of references available, if you cant spend the time in google i'd be happy to send over a load.

weathering where there shouldnt be any again, also the step pads should line up

these bit flash horribly when flying about

2014-6-13_9-25-32-957.jpg

few things with this one, shadow from non existing parts, handle cant make its mind up what colour it wants to be. Dodgy textures along both the canopy run (which isnt flat or that wide and is hollow btw) and along the join

2014-6-13_9-25-15-760.jpg

dodgy weathering again, suggest you look more closely at real chipmunks

I know this is more an FSX clipping issue, but it does detract from it a bit, maybe push it towards the glass a bit more to avoid it?

texture clipping, present on all versions
