Cirrus SR-20 fatal crash

SOH-CM-2026
A Cirrus SR-20 crashed on the Yorkshire moors just a few miles from my home the other day, in strong winds and low cloud/fog over the hilltops.
It seems from the report below that the safety parachute was deployed, but the harness struck a power line and was severed from the plane which was flipped over by the impact and struck the ground inverted, killing both men on board.
A terrible irony that they were probably killed by the safety feature, and I'm sure we'll be hearing more about this after the AAIB report is published:

Out of pure curiosity I just plotted some data in Google Earth and either that aircraft was way off course for whatever reason or they were on a navigation training flight because the routing just doesn't seem right to me.

In the shot below the blue line is the direct route from Birmingham Airport in the east to Halfpenny Green Airport in the west. The red line is the direct route from Birmingham Airport to the crash site!

Very odd!

It certainly is very odd, the plane probably ran out of fuel through being so far off course. All this with modern avionics too - wrong flight plan loaded maybe?
