Civil Danger Warning!?

Motorcycling Kat
Now I've seen my fair share of Blizzard Warnings since I've lived in WI my whole life but they've issued Civil Danger Warnings and Civil Emergency Messages. I can't say I've ever heard of a Civil Danger Warning before!

THE FOLLOWING MESSAGE IS TRANSMITTED AT THE REQUEST OF THE
WISCONSIN EMERGENCY MANAGEMENT AGENCY MILWAUKEE/SULLIVAN
WISCONSIN.

THE FOLLOWING INTERSTATES ARE DECLARED IMPASSABLE...I43 FROM
BELOIT TO MUKWONAGO...AND I94 FROM THE ILLINOIS BORDER TO
MILWAUKEE.

BECAUSE OF LIFE-THREATENING BLIZZARD CONDITIONS...ROADS ACROSS
LAKE COUNTY ARE CLOSED TO ALL TRAFFIC. EMERGENCY RESPONDERS ARE
HAVING DIFFICULTY REACHING NUMEROUS STRANDED MOTORISTS. DRIVING
WILL CONTINUE TO BE NEARLY IMPOSSIBLE FOR THE NEXT SEVERAL HOURS.
IF YOU BECOME STRANDED...EMERGENCY VEHICLES MAY NOT BE ABLE TO
REACH YOU.

IF YOU ARE STRANDED...DO NOT LEAVE YOUR VEHICLE. RUN YOUR VEHICLE
10 MINUTES PER HOUR. MAKE SURE YOUR EXHAUST PIPE IS NOT SNOW
COVERED...AND CRACK OPEN A DOWNWIND WINDOW FOR VENTILATION.

ALL RESOURCES ARE BEING USED TO REACH STRANDED MOTORISTS. PLEASE
DO NOT DRIVE UNLESS ABSOLUTELY NECESSARY. DOING SO WILL PUT YOUR
LIFE AT RISK.

Absolutely crazy! Between this and Severe Cyclone Yasi, Mother Nature is wreaking her havoc all over the place tonight! Stay safe everyone affected! :salute:

Maybe our hard earned tax dollars are finally paying dividends. You don't think that title Civil Warning invented itself do you?

We have the same thing here southwest of Chicago. The county government has pretty demanded people stay off the roads. Most roads and interstates around here are closed anyway. I have finally seen the snow plow go by so now it is my turn to head outside and start clearing the driveway. It is still snowing pretty good here but should be ending soon. Next comes the arctic blast and sub-zero temps. I think we ended up with about 20 inches of snow but it is hard to tell after the 60 mile an hour winds blew it into 4 foot drifts.

Here in Hammond, Indiana it is still white-out, full blown blizzard conditions. I live on one of the main east/west streets that typically are kept plowed continuously 24/7...

I haven't see but one plow since late last night, and he was completely stuck when I looked out this morning. Two hours later I noticed he was still immobilized, so I took him a hot cup of coffee. He said the city wouldn't be able to get around to help him out for several hours (maybe), so I invited him to wait for help here in my house. He's in the other room watching ABC 7's continuous coverage...

KGYY reported gust > 60 knots during the height of the blizzard last night, as well as this (hopefully) last one this morning.

At last report this storm ranks 3rd highest recorded snowfall for the Chicagoland area!

Interesting Bill. Thank you for sharing the warmth of your home with a civil servant out to help the rest of your community. That is mighty neighborly and compassionate.

Hope all of you stay safe and warm back east. Been watching the weather channel and even listened to some radio stations on the internet back east. What a mess for all of you. I love weather and storms but when you get blasted like you guys it becomes fun no more. Spring is soon to be here as I went outside this morning and saw a bulb already coming up out of the ground. I did rig up a flight in flight sim last night in Chicago and what a bumpy blinding thundering flight it was.

Its a very pleasant 68 degrees here in NC. Think I'll get the motorcycle out and go for a spin......

:jump:

It got darned cold here last night (almost 60F about 24 hours ago) and the wind was howling, but we dodged the snow somehow. About 26 now and the wind has let up.

You folks with all that snow have my sympathies.

We had snow again last night only a light wind where other place in NM had strong wind, and it was -6 this AM, and it's still trying to get above 0.

...Some quick photos taken around the homestead this afternoon. As far as I know,...Lake Shore Drive is still closed down, which is a very rare event indeed.
This blizzard that hit Chicago will be recorded the third deepest of all time. :snowman:

Brad's pics reminds me of Bayonne NJ after the big snowstorm of 78 I think it was.

65 in D'ville LD, I took a 4-mile walk, a little too windy for the bike. We're locked into the eastern highs when the precipitation gets here now, all we'll get from here on out is rain. And Phil didn't see his shadow, Spring is nigh. :jump:

Brad, believe it or not, but Danville has had two recorded snows deeper than 20-inches, in February 1940 they got a measured 21 and a half inches in one day and on Super Bowl Sunday 1987, we got 23.75-inches of snow between 5:00 Sunday afternoon and 5:00 Monday afternoon. The next deepest that I remember was 12 plus inches in January 1977.

Tell ya what, Chi-town gets those streets good quickly for that much snow in such a short period of time.

Here in Southwest Missouri (Misery) we got 18 inches of the white stuff, along with 30-50 mph winds.Got the big drifts too, one behind my house is taller than the window. Blizzard warnings were active from 6am yesterday till 6am today. Temps have been in the single digits with wind chills below zero. I just finished shoveling the drive, took me 4 hours with frequent breaks to go in and warm up froze toes.....
