personally, they should do it like they did on the old dirt track i first started at,,,the western modifieds (they still required the 2x4 box frame rails at this time, but some cars ran the fancy midwest "tailtank")..those cars started double file, lead cars up front, slower cars and lap down cars at the rear..there was no "lucky dog" or wave around...they came down the back stretch looking at the flagman,,if the flagman liked what he saw as they got to turn 3,,he threw the green rag,and off they went..if anything went wrong..he had the yellow or black out by the time they hit the flag stand lol.the modified stocks,( we called them "super stocks")did the same thing, end of the back stretch, you watched the flagman, lead cars did..any back cars just watched the cars ahead and when they went..you went...
but the hobby stocks which is where i started,we had a strict starting rule,,we had to be side by side, even.and we couldnt go until the flagman waved the rag,or we got to the flag stand..it was hard to see the stand from my seat in my big pontiac ,so on the rare case i was starting a race...i watched the lights in the dog-leg when i got to the point i could no longer see chris ( the flagman),he was good,as he started to put his hand/arm out to wave the flag..he hit the green light button on the traffic light,so when i saw it go green,bang...full throttle id go..the tire i ran wouldnt spin much,,wheelspin..for a racing tire it had a very aggressive tread, and was illigal at several tracks i went to...had to put up cash at P-ville to buy 6 new tires and get them mounted......that sure hurt my wallet that night...lol..
now my point to all this..NASCAR needs to get rid of the lines on the wall, keep them at caution/pitroad speed on track, right up to the flag stand...they could put a dayglow orange line,,or someone not colorblind could come up with a better color....and they just cannot go until they cross the line, the flagman waves the green and the lights on the wall turn green...period...and nascar could put timing lines,or speed traps..in the track at start/finish,and back to where the pacecar leaves the track..the first three rows of cars would be monitored for caution speed..or pitroad speed.until the line...if they were not "even" side by side, and bumper to bumper, and at the correct speed....then the violators get black flagged.
i wonder what JJ would say if he was in the IRL?CART/INDY or whatever the heck they call em now, they never have a "fair, competitive" restart..or start period..
