Coast Guard rocks

Check out this video of a USCG SH-60 hovering over a cutter in heavy seas. The pilot is synchronizing his hover to the ship as it goes up and down with the waves! Awesome.

Wow, is that the final test in coast guard training. I would of smashed into the deck. That is impressive.

That video is from a rescue mission. In this footage, the pilot was dropping off crewmen just rescued from a drifting fishing boat. The seas were too rough to land the helicopter on the back of the ship (a USCG cutter), so they lowered them down, but had to do this insane hovering! I just saw this on the History Channel on a program about Alaska. I suspected I could find the clip on youtube, and here it is. Amazing stuff.

Being deep blue water Navy, I used to pick at the "knee deep" sailors of the Coast Guard, but they do one hell of a job. :ernae:

The Coast Guard is the most under appreciated service there is, except by those who owe their lives to them -- then they can't be appreciated enough!
