Collin "LongJock" Glendinning 1951-2014

This is a shock. Collin was one of those truly unique individuals. He always had the sunny side up.

His kind of person always leave a legacy. I believe your legacy Collin, will live for a very long time and always leave smiles on faces of those that knew you.

Kelti is right, 2014 hasn't been starting out very well. The loss of Akemi and now Collin. RIP to our lost friends, they shall be missed. I hope that later we have a chance to meet again and with all our passed family and friends.

Colin was a Senior Captain of those of us who make ships and naval models and mods for CFS2 and some other sims, he was a British gentleman from a past generation who started out as a lad training on one of the last sail training ships in Britian, he learned his seamanship from the keel up and rose in the ranks to be a highly respected officer in the British Merchant Marine in one of the finest shipping lines of his time. He retired and lived in London in a small flat on the outskirts of London and had a busy and happy daily routine visiting with friends and a neighboring tea shop that he visited daily and was a much loved customer of, he took suceeding generations of waitresses under his wing and was loved by them all. I met him now many years ago when i first started studying flight sims as he and I were drawn together by our shared love of ships and the sea, naval history and naval war and warships. We talked hundreds of hours sometimes for hours at a time on Skype, and he was my mentor in ship modeling and testing and I was a tester for his ships and ship designs. He made some of the best WWII ships for CFS2 with totally accurate shapes and textures he has a library of actual authenic naval pant ships from WWII and his camo schemes were the best in any sim. He also loved the Korean war era and was working with the Fox Five group on that.

His other loves included rail road history, british and he collected scale models of them as well as the ship lore and love he had. He worked with many of us including Sully who developed some wonderful ships of his own to suppliment WWII with essential ship types we had not had before and Colin was always ready with advice and help for any of us who needed to consult and to work on new projects. He was close to his family and they helped care for him when he faced his medical challenges, and he had been in and out of hospital at times over the past years but I had hoped he would remain with us for many years to come.

It is never easy to lose a shipmate, and I will always always miss him. He has set sail on his last voyage and I will always think of him fondly and wish him safe journey, calm seas and fair winds wherever he may fare.

You can obtain Colin's complete fleet of ship models for CFS2 here:

hope we can keep these fine ships available and online. I hope the Fox Four group will see to this.

Thanks for all of you great works
You will be missed

Rest in Peace Collin
Condolences and prayers to his family and friends

Oh bloody hell.

Another one gone.

A real gentleman of the sea. He will be greatly missed by all who appreciated his work and his personality.

His ships were some of the best of any virtual ship models in any sim, they were accurate and detailed yet worked within the limits of the sim as he was acutely aware of its limitations. We worked hard on the ones i worked on him with to get things right and I really enjoyed the testing phases. I will try to find some pics i have of some of our work... i am so glad he was with us as long as he was.

A strafing run on one of Colin's Japanese Maru's....showing top side gear and fittings. Just those engine vents alone took very skilled crafting...

NO! Not another one!

I can't believe it! First Akemi and now Colin. What's wrong with 2014?

Captain Kurt spoke the same exact words that came instantly to my mind when I saw the title of the thread in the list: "...we are witnessing the passing of another master"...

Terribly sad news, indeed. I haven't got the luck of being so close to him like some other members here, but on a few occasions I had a touch of his hilarious and pungent humour when he made comments about things that I had done and posted.

I always loved British humour, I have the best Monty Python's movies both on VHS tape and DVD, some of Colin's punch lines reminded me of Monty Python and Fawlty Towers!

From all the replies that I just read, comes out a pictures of a fine human being which I would have liked very much to be able to meet in person, shake his hand and have a couple of pints together. So goes life.

Fare thee well, my friend. As I wished Akemi endless bright blue skies to fly in forever, I am wishing you warm head winds feeding your sails and wonderful oceans to sail in for eternity. May both of you be in the palm of the Gods' hand. Amen.

Stefano,

Don't get me wrong, I love Monty Python. But Collin always struck me as a Benny Hill kind of guy, especially considering that he used to flirt with the nurses when he was in the hospital.

Hey...you knew him better than I. A mix of John Cleese and Benny Hill then! :unitedkingdom:

Colin loved the ladies. Some of his best stories were in that theme .... he WAS a wonderful fellow and actually he did enjoy both of the UK comedy masters mentioned...but also history he collected BBC and other history series and stories and generously directed some of us to the good ones and even shared example across the pond. And he loved a pint as well, so i am sure he is lifting a few in Heaven with former shipmates and mates...just wish we could have kept him here a bit longer.:guinness::guinness::guinness:

CrisGer,

let me make a comment I heard several times in my life: the best ones are always the first ones to go, while the worst ones are always around...

Colin would laugh at that..he used to say when his time came they would have to catch him first :)

I am just speechless to hear that Collin has past away - that is indeed sad news.
My condolences to his family. May he rest in peace on his ocean of choice ;-)

Akemi also? Wow, I did not know that!

A few of these to these great guys.

At least these sad news come here to these forums. I don´t want to know how many we knew around here have past away in silence...

My condolences to all on hearing of this sad news. Colin went out of his was to make me, and others, the USS Kadashan Bay. And, for that I will be forever grateful.
"Second star to the right, and steer on til morning". God Bless.

Heya Kelti;

We're all gettin' up there, my friend. My biggest regret will be that I never met you guys nose to nose. This sim, indeed this forum is filled with terrific people. Time marches on. 2013/14 has been very tough on me and my family. We just plug on, missing those who are ahead of us. It hurts, it really does.

If we can get there thinking that the race has been run, I've done my best, then we have no fears.

CFS2 heaven? Absolutely. We'll all take a sip together one day. Here's to you, me and all of us, Kelti............
