• There seems to be an uptick in Political comments in recent months. Those of us who are long time members of the site know that Political and Religious content has been banned for years. Nothing has changed. Please leave all political and religious comments out of the forums.

    If you recently joined the forums you were not presented with this restriction in the terms of service. This was due to a conversion error when we went from vBulletin to Xenforo. We have updated our terms of service to reflect these corrections.

    Please note any post refering to a politician will be considered political even if it is intended to be humor. Our experience is these topics have a way of dividing the forums and causing deep resentment among members. It is a poison to the community. We appreciate compliance with the rules.

I'm bouncing around this website on my phone and big thumbs me hits the home page. Now just my 2 cents but who reads the home page? It is boring but for some reason I did this time. The first sentences (on a cell phone) shocked me ...

I have a number of iternet friends to whom I have recomended this site. Never again - at least until the above is removed from the home page.

Quite honestly, Admins I can not image what you were thinking. You get a recomendation for this site and that is the first thing that you see?

Call me silly, call me stupid, say I don't even know the game - but too, tell me I am wrong.

Deathwind, we can agree to disagree. But I completely disagree. Take it down. What is intuitively obvious is not obvious to the developer.
 
The term "Notorious Hideout for FlightSim Renegades, Outlaws and Scofflaws ... " has been in use since before you joined the forums Ali Cat. It refers to how SOH itself came into existence, you would have to know the history of what went on in the dark and distant past to fully appreciate what that statement stands for.

As to your statement 'But I completely disagree. Take it down' that is fine as a personal viewpoint but you as a single member of this site (who I can tell by the colour of your 'handle' did not pay towards it's upkeep last year) do not get to lay down the rules and regulations or change the important history of the site because you don't happen to agree with a historical statement!

That almost sounds like a quote from the hilarious Tim Minchin. Do yourself a favour if you have not heard of him before and look up his 'Prejudice' video on YouTube (I don't want to post the link here as it has nothing to do with the subject matter of this particular thread!)
 
The home page is there for reasons beyond what you think. The details on it are factual and will stay. Again there is a deeper reason for them being displayed.

The first line is what was on the website home page for years even beyond the vBulletin days.

Many of us are proud of our Flight Sim Renagade status.

What makes us Renagedes?

We land without ATC permission

Pass over the airport at 20,000 ft, show down, dump full flaps and gear, point the nose at the ground and land.

We join other members for hours of online flying all over the world. No passports needed. Sadly that doesn't happen as much any more.

We land in remote places with no runways just to see if we can.

We purposely run out of gas 30 miles from the airport and still stick the landing at Ben Gurion. Alright the truth is that wasn't planned but it was still cool to pull it off.

We load up weather themes that give you 0 visibility on landing and shoot an ILS landing. Those were knuckle biting trips.

But I'm general what we are is a fun loving group of simulators who have a tenancy to ignore the real world aviation rules.

I remember that race leg and the landing! IIRC I was also your wing-man on that leg!
 
I completely missed this thread somehow.

Call me corny, call me old-fashioned, or just call me "crusty" if you want, but I'm tired of seeing history getting rewritten just because people don't like it. If it's not there to remind us of what once was, then there's a chance it may be repeated again in the future -- to include the mistakes. Some of those mistakes are funny, while others are so horrid we can never let them happen again. There are millions of others out there all over the world that feel the same way, not just here in the States.

In keeping with my "corny" nature, I've updated my signature accordingly.

Just might be the reason WHY I joined SOH (in Oct. 2005) BECAUSE this site "feels like home" and suits my lifestyle.
- in a couple of months I'll celebrate 20 years online.
This SOH CFS2 forum is BY FAR .... the friendliest place I've ever found.

"I am proud to be a renegade, outlaw and scofflaw and have been so all my life, my dear late Mother used to refer to me as a 'rebel without a cause' for all the worry and grief I caused her as a rebellious teenager in a motorcycle gang!"
