Converting aircraft from CFS1 to CFS2?

Alright, the title's a little self explanitory, but I'll explain anyway...

I know it's possible to take the planes ouf of Combat flight simulator 1 and put them into CFS2, but I was wondering if there were any addons or such anywhere that added all of the little bullet holes that appear when you're getting shot or how the wing can break off if it gets hit too much... I love that part of it, and I was just wondering if there was any way that I could add it into the CFS1 planes and put them into CFS1. If there are any addons or such for this, please do tell. Thanks.

First off welcome again to the forum, and it's good to see you got cfs2 to load. But just out of curiosity why and what aircraft would you want to bring over from cfs1?
It is totally doable, but you can find far superior models of the same aircraft as freeware on the the "shelves" here at SOH and Netwings and simviation.
As for bringing them over, I think there are files for download at simviation in the cfs2 section that helped with that but I dont recall the specifics as to what they do..

Cheers :wavey:

Hmm...I have a general as of how to do it but I just figured I'd check...

I really didnt have any single plane in mind, I'm just stocking up on planes so I have a lot more than just the three stock fighters that came with it...

I'll go browse around the planes section some more...I always like to stuff simulators as full as they can get with planes and updates...

I think that I saw a conversion file/tool somewhere here but I cant really recall where...I'll go check again...Yes, I like using '...'s a lot in my statements.

Yo TotalAnihilation10,

Welcome to the forum!

Look in our CFS-2 Aircraft section, and you'll never want to go back to CFS-1 for NOTHIN' ever again...

Also, go to www.simviation.com to get started on building airplanes in your library....

Yeah, I go to simviation all the time for stuff...one of my favorite websites other than this. And I already have quite a few planes from here. Yep, I've gotta agree, they're top notch. I was just wondering about CFS1 'cause a lof of the times I take older planes, give them new textures, and overhaul everything else to get them up to standard. I also use quite a lot of Alphasim's freeware, and a couple of leaked planes are in my FSX from them too. IRIS Simulations also has a few good freeware planes that I'm working on right now...

Also, just a thought, but does anyone here have either Ace Combat 4, 5, or Zero?

One reason for converting the CFS1 planes for CFS2 use is that they pass restrict in online play. But yeah, I agree with the others above, you can get much better detailed models of the same cfs1 aircraft fom the Addons tab here and other websites like Netwings and Simviation.

Not to sound like a moron...again...but Is there still even online play available for CFS2? MSN Gaming Zone stopped offering it along with Fighter Ace 2 a while ago I heard...

Totally Stuffed ?!

Mr. Annihalation, Sir;

Welcome to this little corner of the Basement...

Please be aware that CFS2 has a 100 plane limit BEFORE using SimonU's workaround.

If you start getting close to 100 planes in the Aircraft folder, and experience crash-to-desktop [CTD] or game freezes... you're too close.

Enjoy !

Hi all,
SC7500 is right and wrong in what he says.If you go over the 100 a/c you get 2 error messages. You can click straight through them and continue to fly with no problem 'Using SimonU's fix stops this happening'.The only problem you will have is that the mission builder will cease to work.
Most people here have multiple set ups.I have 7 set ups.So many will have a set up just for mission building anyway. With the fix the mission builder still does not work, but you do not get the error messages anymore.
I have found that to stop CFS2 from working with a/c it is nearly 1000 a/c before it falls over.
I also suggest you look at the work of The_B24_Guy here in the Outhouse library for updating all your stock a/c to a flyable state. This includes all the current a/i a/c.

I made a spreadsheet of all the planes I have in the various simulators; so I didn't keep downloading the same planes over and over. Also, now that I got CFS2; it looks so nice compared to FS2002 and FS2004 that decided to take most of my "shoot-en-up" planes out of FS2002 and FS2004 and fly them in CFS2 instead.

Anyway; with all that said, I have yet to find a CFS2 version of the following planes, which I had in CFS1:
  • Amiot 143 M
  • AradoAr 234B
  • Caproni CA.313
  • Curtiss SB2C Helldiver
  • Dewotine D-501
  • Dewotine D-520
  • Kyushu J7W Shinden
  • Mewa LWS.3
  • Morane 406
  • Potez 63.11
  • PZL P-23b Karas
  • PZL P-37 Los
  • PZL P-7a
  • Shorts Sunderland
There are some others; but I have only looked here in the SOH downloads; and haven't looked at the warehouse sites yet; where I imagine I will find most of them.

I would particulary like to have Curtiss SB2C Helldiver, Kyushu J7W Shinden, and Shorts Sunderland back.

Saw the Dewotine D-520 in the Battle of Somme; so nevermind on that one. I also have a ton of planes I have been meaning to install in FS2002; among the ones that I noticed were originally made for CFS2, I found a Curtiss SB2C Helldiver.

I'm sure the others are out there; just too much stuff, too little time. But leads on the Kyushu J7W Shinden, and Shorts Sunderland would be appreciated. Did Stuart Green ever release a CFS2 version of his FS2004 Sunderland?

-James

Hi jhefner,
No he did not.I converted it with his permission. It is in my downloads section.

I'm sure I've seen a PZL P-37 Los somewhere. Might be a bit long in the tooth though.
