Corrupted .air files in all my aircraft folders

I just discovered that all my flight simulator .air files in all my downloaded aircraft have been corrupted. When clicking on the .air file (which now looks weird) I get this message:

"Application Install
Sorry, an error has occurred.
The application could not be installed because the installation file is damaged. Try obtaining a new installer file from the application author."

I have never had this happen or never heard of it happening. It occurs in new downloads as well as files I have had for years. Consequently, none of my Microsoft flight simulators will run. The only change I have made to my computer prior to this happening was the installation of the Firefox browser. Does anyone have any ideas???
