Corsair

Which aircraft is this? It looks simple enough, but do you have more pics?

It's the Planes of Fame F4U-1A (which should be fitted with a -1A canopy, which they have, though they have never gotten around to re-installing it).

There is also a lot of debate, or there was at one time, over whether or not a Corsair was ever finished in the exact tri-color layout as the aircraft is painted (i.e., the dark blue upper layer on the fuselage, not extending down to the wing). There is only one photo that seems to exist, which is hardly clear enough to make an assured conclusion from, that might show a Corsair finished like this. The style/design of the stenciled number on each side of the aircraft, is another issue...still it is a great aircraft, and the oldest Corsair flying!

I'm looking forward to downloading these new repaints Jan Kees! I particularly like the dark green/gray over sea-gray (yellowish-tint) Royal Navy schemes.

Not sure how it would looked applied to the Aircraft Factory/A2A Corsair (the canopy framing isn't 'beefy' enough), but this one has all the right stuff going for it, I think (all photo credits go to TFLM, the "Texas Flying Legends Museum" who own the aircraft):

Seen here with a temporary, larger application of the reg-number, for an international flight it took part in - otherwise it doesn't have quite so big of a reg-number applied to it.

Hello Jan - love the repaints!

2 quick questions.

1. The spinner looks untextured (black) on these repaints (whereas your Hampton Grey paint was not)

2. My tanks aren't textured properly - they're the default dark US blue.

Did I mess something up?

thanks!

1: as far as I know, the RN aircraft I painted had black spinners

2: I never textured them, For some reason I always fly without tanks..I can look at it if you like?

Hello Jankees,

Apologies on the spinner - further research showed you were right in painting them black. In the sim it looked like an untextured part - didn't realize that was intentional (and historically correct).

Regarding the tanks - that's ok as is - you did a lot of work already, I'll just "jettison" the tanks before each flight - no worries there.

I stumbled across this interesting Corsair paint done on a -5FN model ... nice alternative to the Sea Fury, which may take quite a while to see in this sim ... cool, huh?

Anyway - a great model, and some great repaints - many thanks, JK!!

Aeroplane Heaven had a F4U5-N in their FS9 Late Corsair pack. Nice plane, one I flew many times in the Round the World Race. Unfortunatly has too many issues to be used in FSX very well.

Cheers: T.

Yes Tom - I posted a thread about that model here: http://www.sim-outhouse.com/sohforu...H-Corsairs-Late-Pack-in-FSX&highlight=corsair

Loved it in FS9, if for no other reason than the FG-1. What a shame we'll likely never see such a model in this sim ...

Thanks all the same.
